9jf9hf ahhhh so indieweb.org was a Wiki all along
#
9jf9hf i only now figured it out
#
9jf9hf https://indieweb.org/Special:Random is at the bottom of the sidebar and it always goes to https://indieweb.org/events/2024-06-12-hwc-nuremberg
#
9jf9hf where do i go to browse the Wiki?
#
IWDiscord <9jf9hf>
#
9jf9hf nvm found the alphabetical listing of all pages! https://indieweb.org/Special:AllPages
#
[Al_Abut] sheesh, replacing my vimeo embeds with generic video was so dang easy, I should’ve done this years ago

#
[John_Gorenfeld] I used to update my status on a Unix .plan file, anyone else?
#
[Al_Abut] I think I used to do that in college? Whatever the setup was so that when someone used the finger command, you could serve up ascii art to make them feel welcome with a couch and a lamp, etc

[John_Gorenfeld] Whoa do you have an online Finger server?
#
[John_Gorenfeld] As a fan of both TOS and WHOIS i love this. Is this something where you just open up a port on your webserver and can allow finger requests?
#
[John_Gorenfeld] Might have to set that up on mine...
#
[John_Gorenfeld] Had the urge the other day to create a modern version of YTalk, where you could see the other person in your chat typing letters. Only with encryption
#
[John_Gorenfeld] But yeah, IDIC!

#
Loqi It looks like we don't have a page for "finger" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "finger is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[morganm] What is a vpn
#
Loqi VPN is Virtual Private Network, a way to securely connect to a private network https://indieweb.org/VPN
#
[morganm] I went on a search mission to read reputable information about VPNs - I don't use one at home , I just want to learn about what's out there - and it's so heavily marketed and SEOd it's hard to find out good info
#
[morganm] If I find any info I'll consider updating the wiki stub
Kolev, bread and [snarfed] joined the channel
#
[morganm] I don't actually want one or have a use case, I am attracted conceptually to the idea of adding noise to the signal of my online footprint, sort of like I trim UTM params off urls, but not much more than that
#
[morganm] I am still somehow interested in the concept of them
#
[morganm] My wife asked me about VPNs and I knew nothing
#
[morganm] If I can make the bots work harder
#
[morganm] Add a little fuzziness
#
[morganm] Philosophically that is enough for me
#
[morganm] Like I sit back in my chair being like "I'm a little harder to target with ads" and that somehow gives me utility
#
[morganm] I will compile any good links or info I find on my Interest journey on this topic
