[Kupietz][artlung] I couldn't resist playing with your codepen... got the infinite zoom down pretty smooth. https://codepen.io/kupietz/pen/XJNJPvZ Nice technique, I still don't entirely understand how you did it, all I did was jimmy around the positioning and the timing function. [artlung][Kupietz]++ oh hell yes! Nicely done! A slight jog at the seam but you got way smoother than I got. I've been thinking through and there are several ways to go about this. That's one! Background size and position, element width and height, scale() and translate, and 3-d perspective transforms. Brilliantly collaborated sir!
[Kupietz]Yeah, I ran into the 80/20 rule hard with that little hiccup, so I finally said, good enough... actually the reason for the rotating colors in the background was to distract from it 🙂 I bet it could be taken care of, but not without sitting and doing math, and there is a limit to how much even I will geek out on a Friday night.
[Kupietz]Now, what I'd really like to do is mimic focal length with a blur filter so the "distant" and "close" cats are appropriately out-of-focus. I am 100% certain it can be done... somehow...
[Kupietz]So, ps, I looked at that code pen on my phone before bedtime… And the “hiccup“ is much worse on [mobile] than it is on Firefox desktop. Will probably compulsively revisit later on.
