[morgan] I just wanted to share that for my personal website development I wanted to switch to linux, and I wanted to re-use my older development machine, a Mac Mini from 2014. I found a distro called MX Linux which works great on older hardware like this, and so far so good. Ill add a note to the wiki about it

[Kupietz] I host my website on a 2012 Mac Mini - Debian 12 on VMware on MacOS.

[capjamesg] I have https://amie.jamesg.blog/ that I built for keeping track of people I meet at an event.
#
[capjamesg] It runs offline with a service worker.
#
Loqi It looks like we don't have a page for "web apps" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "web apps is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[capjamesg] What were the ideas you were thinking about?
#
Loqi A web application or web app is an application written in web technologies that runs in a web browser, and sometimes standalone on some devices, such as the social reader Monocle and posting client Quill https://indieweb.org/web_app
#
[tantek] web apps is /web_application
#
[capjamesg] Sounds good!

#
[Kupietz] I have a few.
#
[Kupietz] • Big Diffr, for diffing successive revisions of documents: https://michaelkupietz.com/demos/big-diffr/
#
[Kupietz] • Thetatoy, a visualizer for certain advanced aspects of options trading: https://michaelkupietz.com/offsite/thetasurface.html
#
[Kupietz] • The Internet BS Detector, a custom search engine that hits fact-checking sites, including a bookmarklet: https://bsdetector.info (That one is neat, if you check the github repo it actually does a lot more, it's a single file tha serves all it's own assets, including letting users download its source, by specifying URL parameters.)
#
[Kupietz] • Gemini Pro Reader, a Google Drive app that lets you display and download saved Gemini Pro chats from your Google Drive. https://michaelkupietz.com/demos/gemini-3-pro-reader/gemini-reader.html (Actually TBH I can't recall if I ever gave that one permissions to access anybody's google drive but my own, but, it works for me.)
#
[Kupietz] Full disclosure, all of them besides the BS Detector leaned fairly heavily on vibe coding to write. BS Detector was totally programmed by hand.
#
[capjamesg] [tantek] Speaking of web apps, I also have https://playground.jamesg.blog/kanban.html?project=indieweb, which is a KanBan board that works in local storage.
#
[capjamesg] You can specify an arbitrary ?project= to create different boards.
#
[capjamesg] Yeah!
#
[capjamesg] The accent colour is calculated using the Dopplr algorithm.
#
[capjamesg] I should allow a way to set custom columns too.
#
[Kupietz] Hey [capjamesg] your comment got me looking at Dopplr colors, which reminded me of this. Seen it? All 16 million web colors, with deterministic names. https://colors.codes/
#
[Kupietz] My favorites so far, BTW:

#
[capjamesg] Omg haha
#
[capjamesg] “Holographic Shu” 😂
#
[Kupietz] Yes, it's rather addictive, scrolling through, seeing what things are called, trying to figure out how the names are assigned
#
ZodiacalComet [Kupietz]++ huh, I always used https://www.colorhexa.com/ to get a name. Though that is because I usually have the hex on those cases. Nonetheless, interesting find!
#
[morgan] Im trying to set up a raspberry pi to be an adblocker/pihole, and I feel like an absolute noob who has never had to setup a static IP before. Anyone potentially want to help me debug a little? Id love to return a favor somehow

#
[morgan] Im just finding xfinity feels very limited somehow, Im trying to set it up but cant find the options commonly described in posts online
#
ZodiacalComet ah, cannot really be of much help there since I haven't done it. Thought it was to test if it was working. Sorry.
#
[morgan] No worries. Ill go figure it out and come back when its online

[Kupietz] Yet another service discriminating against people with no real-life friends!!!
#
[Kupietz] I'm gonna start an antisocial network, where you can only sign up if you can confirm via bluetooth that there's nobody physically near you!
#
[Kupietz] 🥸
#
[Kupietz] I'll call it Spinster.
