[Kupietz] Annnnnn from the sublime to the profane. Uck. Now the flippin' syndication plugin won't acknowledge links syndicating to indienews. I tried `<a href="https://news.indieweb.org/en" class="u-syndication">Also posted on IndieNews</a>` and `<a href="https://news.indieweb.org/en" class="mk-external-link u-category entry-content__a">#indienews</a>`. Last week the plugin recognized that there were URLs in those. This week it doesn't. I
#
[Kupietz] this one is a problem on my site... just venting here I suppose.
#
[Kupietz] linked to Al Abut in the same post and it saw his URL just fine, it just refuses to see Indienews. Man, these constant battles every time I try to syndicate something are getting old, I'm really reconsidering my involvement in social blogging, at least until I have time to code implementations myself so I know they work. This seemed like such a good idea at the time. INB4: Thanks, but, there's nothing anybody here can do to help,

[Kupietz] Ah, yeah, sorry, shoulda posted in #indieweb-wordpress. Brain kind of zotzed, I just wrote a great big post and can't get it out and kinda saw red

#
[Kupietz] Well, it's a petit one. Loss of ability to automatically syndicate. Will have to do it by hand. Not lost content, just an annoyance.
#
[Kupietz] I already got past the full "loss of newly authored content" today, as when Firefox did it's semi-weekly "I'm a web browser, so I'm going to stop connecting to any web servers until you restart" trick right after I finished writing but hadn't yet saved the post, I looked squarely at the WordPress message that said, "WordPress cannot connect to the server, saving a local copy in your browser" and said, "NOT TODAY, SATAN!" and
#
[Kupietz] copied the entire post into a text file and saved it on my hard drive. Which turned out to be the right move, as of course, once I quit the browser and restarted, WordPress had not actually saved a local copy. It's a good thing I'm wise to its ways.
#
[Kupietz] I have a plugin installed that saves everything I enter in a text area into a log, even javascript ones, but I don't like to depend on it, it's kind of a very last resort, it's pretty reliable but not 100%. At this point I'm battle tested enough to know, if I need to restart the browser, just open a text editor and manually save what I'm working on, never trust that the browser is doing what it says it's doing.
#
[Kupietz] But it does mean I had to reset up all my categories and post options, which is irritating.

gRegor I tried submitting your post using the manual form https://news.indieweb.org/en/submit and it looks like your site responded with 403: `An error occurred while attempting to fetch the source URL: The URL returned "HTTP 403 Forbidden"

#
[KevinMarks] the offline web stuff can do this, but making it work is a bit of a pain
#
[Kupietz] Appreciate it [gRegorLove]. I'll let you know. Yes, I have a whole other odyssey going on with that 403 error which I've resisted commenting on here as I feel like venting on you guys once a day is probably enough. But I have a major world of annoyance going on right now. .
#
[Kupietz] LOL, thanks.
#
[Kupietz] Yeah, I had to manually turn off some site security that turned out to be buggy. A false positive weeks ago caused a process on my site to decide that the IP address that hosts indienews and some other indieweb related stuff is a bad actor, and then a bug in that process turned out to cause things to be blocked permanently rather than for 24 hours, and then another bug prevented me from being able to whitelist any IPs and say
#
[Kupietz] "Hey, please stop blocking this already, you're wrong".
#
[Kupietz] Very disappointing, it actually provided a very valuable security function, until I discovered that a single false positive would be permanent and irrevocable. I just left a pretty irate review of a wordpress plugin.
#
[Kupietz] It turns out, that the "Ban any IP that sends a POST with no user agent or referrer" in Wordfence is not the good idea it sounds like.
#
[Kupietz] Anyways, yes, at least I can manually syndicate right now.

waples Well hello there! Call me Waples-- I am a total noob and am seeking any and all advice for starting out. I've never taken a comp sci/coding/ANYTHING course before, just messed around with HTML and CSS as a kid. If you guys have any beloved resources you've collected as you've built your websites, I would appreciate the recommendations!
#
waples For context, I've become more serious about digital hygiene and privacy recently, and have a casual interest in OSINT but feel like I have zero technical knowledge related to any computer/web topics, so "for dummies" stuff also totally applies. I just wanna build my own cool website!
