WinnerWind my SSG is finally stable enough for me to start writing actual templates and start pointing it towards something!
#
WinnerWind now i just need to refine small things here and there until im satisfied and refactor the code so its a bit neater
#
WinnerWind as i start using the SSG, ill start to notice smaller architectural flaws in the app itself
#
WinnerWind speaking of testing: another application of mine runs tests by making a folder and running tests on those folder which can have a pretty high I/O load. how do you manage this? i'm afraid that because of the rate at which I run these tests (almost 100 times a day because of how rapidly I iterate and code) i might be wearing out the disk. im on linux and unfortunately im using Godot so i need to use a real file system

simpleauthority Moved my website off of CF workers and on to my personal cluster. Even with Cloudflare's "AI bot blocker", I was still getting some 2k+ requests per day from these AI scrapers. Put anubis in front and I don't think any of them are making it to the actual website pod anymore. That thing really works.

superkuh Anubis has a HTML meta-redirect challenge too that actually works in all browsers.

iona.emd I have what I thought was a basic question but I found it difficult to find answers online:
#
iona.emd (I will be hosting on neocitites and coding in Visual Studio if that is important to mention.)
#
iona.emd If I want to build a website for desktop and mobile how should I go about this? If I understand correctly there are two routes: using responsive web design or adaptive and as I'm new to website building I'd appreciate any opinions or advice about which direction to go.

simpleauthority iona_emd[d]: You can actually lean into it bit by bit. What a lot of people do is design "mobile first", and then once that's done, they add styles that respond "upward" to bigger screens. But the mobile style often doesn't look too bad on big screens anyway, as a result.
#
simpleauthority You can do this with plain css media queries, or if you use a css framework like tailwind they have css classes that creates the media query for you within well defined 'breakpoints' (different screen sizes -- for example, 'small' is 700px wide, 'medium' is 900? i think, and so on). Without specifying a breakpoint in tailwind you're targetting the default size which is < 700px. If you define no breakpoint specific styles,

#
iona.emd Thank you! Is it then not reccomended to go for desktop first? as I think this would be my preference to start there
#
simpleauthority You can, but the way media queries work, you'll end up reorganizing your CSS rules from smaller -> larger screen sizes anyway
#
simpleauthority But if that's not a worry for you, then it's fine

#
iona.emd ahh okay I will look into that then...
#
simpleauthority But honestly, if this is your first site, it's totally okay. You don't need to write it perfectly as someone with years of experience in the field might do.
#
IWDiscord <simpleauthority>
#
simpleauthority You just style it how you want now, get it looking good, then later if it doesn't look quite right on mobile or something, go fix it then. It doesn't need to be perfect right now.

[Den] ↩️ One simple media query to play with is orientation. Sometimes the simplest solution is to alter the layout between portrait and landscape. E.g., you have a section using flexbox to put items side by side on desktop. in an orientation: portrait media query, set the container to flex-direction: column.

[KevinMarks] Another way is to use a preexisting stylesheet as a starting point and then customise later.
