Does anyone else want to weigh in on this whole "universal mentions" "RFC" thing on Reddit? The conversation has continued somewhat. https://www.reddit.com/r/indieweb/comments/1u3cne2/comment/or4wq6v/ and maybe some note about visual conventions (or lack thereof) should end up on the http://indieweb.org wiki.

[fluffy]
[tantek] you mentioned talking about "@-domain" somewhere on the wiki, did you ever find it?
#
aaronpk
i'm so confused
#
aaronpk
just put an @ in your link if you want, why do we need to agree?

Yeah if they want to do the auto-discovery thing they describe in the reader app, seems like looking for links with an `h-card` would be simpler than suggesting people change how they write the link text.
#
gRegor
what is @domain
#
Loqi
A personal domain is a domain name (or web address) that you personally own, control, and use to represent yourself on the internet https://indieweb.org/Domain
#
gRegor
what is at-domain
#
Loqi
@domain (AKA @-domain or at-domain) is the use of a domain name as a user identifier in prose, similar to a silo @-mention, except an @-domain mention works globally, independent of any silo https://indieweb.org/at-domain
#
gRegor
I think that page, [fluffy]
#
gRegor
gives Loqi an @
#
Loqi
grabs the @

[fluffy]
[aaronpk] Exactly, people can use an @ or not, there is nothing necessary about it
#
[fluffy]
[Gregor] Thanks! (and ironically Slack isn’t letting me @-mention your bridged account, argh)
#
[fluffy]
I was replying to the finding at-domain rather than the comment but both work 🙂

all good, I get pings for my name too :)
#
[fluffy]
anyway I’m done commenting on the thread, I really have no idea what they’re actually trying to solve and at this point I don’t care
#
[fluffy]
like now they’ve moved onto it being something about RSS autodiscovery?
#
gRegor
It does seem specific to the reader app they're building, which is a fine experiment, but a big lift to expect it to become a broader thing, imo
#
[fluffy]
and they already have all the signals they need for what they’re trying to achieve, between `<link rel="webmention">` and `<link rel="alternate">` on the target page
#
gRegor
Also, guess I'll join the indieweb reddit, lulz. Not that I check reddit often
#
[fluffy]
yeah I spend way too much time on reddit and I’m always trying to cut down 😛

Yes and yes h-card is how to mark it up for detection as mentioning a person rather than being a random link with an @ in the link text
#
[tantek]
Oops didn't see the scroll back due to connectivity. Interesting. Thanks gRegor for already finding the right at-domain page
#
[tantek]
Did I just forget to fix the other redirect or is Loqi ignoring an @ at the front of a what is?
#
gRegor
Loqi ignores the @
#
gRegor
Unless you give it to him :)
#
aaronpk
gives Loqi an @

Loqi
Thanks, aaronpk!

↩️ [mikemai2awesom] FWIW we prefer not to use the Slack threads feature here because it causes problems with the other chat networks that it bridges to
