[Trevor_Morris] tdrayson I've been working on my health page. I've got most of the data I require now, I think. I've been working on the design. I'd love to get some feedback.

tdrayson The charts look great. Really like them. Overall I love it

#
tdrayson This looks great. I’d perhaps check your colours for accessibility as they aren’t the most readable.
#
tdrayson Which health metrics are you exporting to get the ring charts?
#
[Trevor_Morris] The fitness style at the top? At the moment I manually enter them. But I've been working on the sync from the app data. Let me double check what it’s grabbing from the JSON. I was sending the “summary” values, which are easy to match up, but then I didn't get the 15-min intervals or sleep graph.

savphill rMdes: WPMU.dev- Could be this- https://www.wordfence.com/blog/2026/08/wordfence-argus-finds-critical-authentication-bypass-in-wpmu-dev-dashboard-plugin/
#
rMdes-bnc Oh gosh, sounds exactly like what I experienced

[artlung] because more operating systems have emoji built in, which then also *work* inside browsers, what you are saying is roughly correct. I'll also mention that this https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/Reference/Properties/font-variant-emoji may also be useful. As for me, I definitely add emoji to pages more unthinkingly than I did, say, 8 years ago.
#
[artlung] And here's a codepen which has the "text" telephone glyph and a pasted emoji handled as an experiment. https://codepen.io/artlung/pen/rayVOoP
#
tdrayson Let me know what your setup is when you find it for sent eh 15 min intervals
#
IWDiscord <tdrayson>
#
tdrayson [Trevor_Morris] yeah the light blue and green colours.
#
IWDiscord <savphill>
#
savphill Might be a good plugin to go without!
#
savphill rMdes: Looks like they’ve released a patch. That being said, this was the second critical vuln discovered in August.

[Trevor_Morris] tdrayson everything is from the Auto Export app JSON. I have it parsed into my database. I have one row for "health" which was my existing table, and drives the move/exercise/stand ring and card. I've since used the existing fields I had, for the chart data. The sleep data is in a brand new table.

morganwebdev Hello, Im returning for a quick share of a website project Im working on to incorporate into my personal website someway. Basically, I want to visually and factually make it clear that this dictaphone is a local experience, nothing is sent off the page, it saves to indexedDB. I dont want to overwhelm the user with disclaimers either or clutter. Love any dev thoughts on this https://morgans-web-dictaphone.netlify.app/
#
rMdes-bnc <savphill>: I only had one Wordpress with this, its definitely removed, canceled pro subscription

[artlung] morganwebdev, Iuse a one liner with "privacy policy" to answer whatever concerns a person might have. https://noke.us/ - when I shared this at an art show in March people asked about what the page did (I had a qr code up) . The line at the bottom -- _"*Privacy Policy:* No information about your visit is retained, no cookies are set, your image is not stored."_ was written based on those interactions.
#
morganwebdev That seems very effective and clear- And I remember trying out the affirmations thing around the time you posted it :D!
#
morganwebdev I think there is somewhat a knowledge gap about what local-focused features are or websites that are like singe serve local websites
#
morganwebdev we gotta do our best and be clear and trustworthy
#
wturrell I quite liked this too, for a more detailed page: https://www.craftmarkdown.com/safety
#
morganwebdev Something like a one-liner on the page and then a more detailed page about what it does and how it saves locally

savphill wturrell: Worth scrolling to the end to see that calming background!
#
morganwebdev !!! An actual use case appears in the wild
#
morganwebdev I havent felt as excited about learning a new little area of web dev for a while, I feel nature is healing a little for me
#
morganwebdev My current debugging mission is to see why VoiceOver on Mac, screen reader, annoucnes that a Screen and Camera is also being shared even when its explicitly not and only Microphone has been given permission
#
morganwebdev It does work offline due to some code wrangling a service worker into it yesterday! If you gave it a try offline on a phone or desktop you would do me a great joy

#
morganwebdev My plan is to release a basic remix of the dictaphone app for others to use on Github, and then create two specific implementations with a lot of theming and styling one into my website and one also standalone
#
morganwebdev Thanks *cedes rest of his time*
#
wturrell yep just tried it on iPhone (SE 3rd gen, iOS 18.7.8 - last year's) - works fine offline, including after a reboot. however: prompts me for microphone permission every time page loads, when you've stopped recording but page is still open, the toolbar continues to flash orange, indicating mic still in use
#
morganwebdev Thank you sincerely for trying it out, and that feedback is great. This was a rush to a 'minimum' something, and its got the bare bones of some stuff, but I want to make it so it only asks for permission on interaction with the page and other things you just experienced
#
morganwebdev IndexedDB requires JS to work but like... well my brain is still adjusting to the idea of way fewer sizer restrictions for files and data. Offline and online capable to be accessed. Huge windows of web dev seem to have been limited by cookies, even smaller local storage
#
morganwebdev Appreciating the web today, happy friday (atleast where I am)
#
[pcarrier] morganwebdev: can even use plain files, no restrictions once the user selects their target. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/File_System_API
#
morganwebdev Ok another question/line of thought. Lets say I dont want to even offer any way to send the files, but if they can be accessed by a File System API then they likely can be surfaced in OS based options to send something like "Send this file as SMS" or something?
#
morganwebdev Basically Ive had this spurt of inspiration to go all-in on the local/offline-first aspect, and want to avoid any attempts at integration. I thought about making a MailTo: that had a default subject body with the attachment. Not sure if that makes any sense
#
morganwebdev Integration other than allowing local file access i.e a download, at minimum
#
morganwebdev I think wturrell has a very keen observation of a potential actually fun and good use cases, wildlife observations, cooking notes, personal notes. It might not do it better than others but basically Im enthused by the idea of making something with good features for a change
#
morganwebdev !! Another good find, I was unaware of that, Ill have to see how that works
#
[pcarrier] it's hit-and-miss on desktop
#
[pcarrier] I would offer a plain download option too
#
morganwebdev I think theres almost a value to just leaving it as a plain download, its the theme of the local offline basic "what you see is what you get"
#
morganwebdev Also that share doesnt work on firefox
#
morganwebdev (unless enabled)
#
tdrayson a json with export and import would be how i'd handle it. done similar stuff in the past with that method.

#
morganwebdev My goals for this are to try and hone in the most minimal essential features. The web audio spectrum animation using canvas - adapted from MDN docs - is cool, but its the reason the audio permissions is janky and keeps the mic on
#
morganwebdev At least, how its done now
#
morganwebdev Ultimately I want to build a Codec style theme around it, something inspired by Metal Gear Solid https://i.etsystatic.com/11518244/r/il/faf8c6/2045833620/il_340x270.2045833620_mrnx.jpg
#
morganwebdev I think I can see how I can turn on the visualization only when recording, which I think turns off the media stream from the mic. I think I can make a lot of progress figuring out how to switch it off
#
morganwebdev I feel like the UX here is totally in step with the desired user experience, turning it on, recording, it being done, and also some of the potential permissions issues Im getting/ it remaining on on my phone even after changing tabs.
#
morganwebdev UX of fixing the permissions* and the experience of wanting to record
#
morganwebdev Basically the website should load, it be comfortable visually to see what your about to get into, maybe with a privacy policy one liner and expanded page about its local usage, and then they click or interact with a single <main> child element to initiate the recording and the spectrum animation, when its done it turns those things off

[tantek] one use-case I have had for tracking "finished reading up to a page number" is if/when I see a book I am reading at another location, if I know the page number I have finished, then I can pick up that other instance of the book and keep reading, log what page number I get to and when I return home, resume reading at that page number. imagine friends/family with an overlap in books visiting each other,
#
gRegor Not IBC specifically. I experimented with it in my manual read posts way back (before IBC): https://indieweb.org/read#Earlier_work
