↩️ good morning tantek,
#
[Joschi_Kuphal]
when i look at the list, i find the following points that i could cover:
#
[Joschi_Kuphal]
- large sticky notes
#
[Joschi_Kuphal]
- i could print out the building block posters (if interesting)
#
[Joschi_Kuphal]
- i could bring two-color lanyards (accessibility club branding)
#
[Joschi_Kuphal]
- i will bring my 360° camera
#
[Joschi_Kuphal]
- i could bring signs with arrows and logo
#
[Joschi_Kuphal]
unfortunately i don't have any of the other items in stock. please let me know which of the above items would be interesting.

↩️ Vielen dank [Joschi_Kuphal]! For the "building block posters", if they are meant to be printed on normal A4 paper, you can send me a PDF and I can ask them to be printed in the Mozilla Berlin office and laminated too.
#
[tantek]
• large sticky notes
#
[tantek]
Please bring:
#
[tantek]
• do you still have the large IndieWebCamp banner we can use for the photo?
#
[tantek]
• the lanyards - are they yellow or red for photo taking permissions? (we don't have badges though 🤔 )
#
[tantek]
• yes 360° camera please!
#
[Joschi_Kuphal]
↩️ • the badges are bright orange and dark blue
#
[Joschi_Kuphal]
↩️ • unfortunately, my banner disappeared. i must have lent it to someone (and forgotten who) and then never got it back
#
aaronpk
[tantek] [Joschi_Kuphal] I still have blank IWC paper badges, I can mail them to [tantek] , I think we still have time for that
#
[Joschi_Kuphal]
↩️ • the posters are linked in the wiki page you sent (i didn't make them, just found them
#
[Joschi_Kuphal]
)
#
aaronpk
i also have red and black lanyards
#
[tantek]
↩️ Maybe the banner got stuck in San Diego? https://indieweb.org/2023/SD or maybe GWG has it?
#
[Joschi_Kuphal]
↩️ i really don't remember (must have been bevore COVID started, likely around 2018 / 2019)
#
[tantek]
↩️ Let's skip the badges/lanyards then

↩️ I can't reply to the thread from IRC but I have badges and lanyards I can ship to [tantek]!
#
[tantek]
Thanks aaronpk! ok going off-thread here
#
[tantek]
are these the "blank" IndieWebCamp lanyards where people can use a dry erase marker to put their name on it and we can wipe and re-use?
#
aaronpk
they are paper, not dry erase, but they are blank. so you can use sharpies or print labels
#
[tantek]
do we have spares already? no reason to make new ones
#
aaronpk
I optimistically got a big batch of them printed in 2018, we used them for IndieWeb Summit 2018 and 2019, and I still have a ton more
#
[tantek]
I think I still have mine hanging up at home that I can bring
#
aaronpk
i can easily send you 30 blanks or whatever you think is appropriate based on the RSVP count
#
[tantek]
30 is plenty. We have 13 signups as a few days ago and I'd be surprised if we got more than 20 people (though I'm going to invite local Mozilla people today so we'll see how that goes)

[tantek]
aaronpk, do you remember what we meant "Directions/Signs" on the https://indieweb.org/IndieWebCamp_kit page? There's no link to PDF or anything for those
#
aaronpk
giant arrows
#
aaronpk
just to point people right/left at various intersections while trying to find the room
#
[tantek]
I vaguely remember some we had in some past IndieWebCamps with the logo, logo text, and then a large arrow underneath that? or on top?
#
[tantek]
this is why it helps to have PDFs for these that organizers can print / send to be printed without having to redesign everytime 🙂
#
[tantek]
anyway, Joschi volunteered to bring the signs with arrows and logo so we should be good with that
#
[tantek]
[Joschi_Kuphal] I have started keeping a list to track our remaining organizer-like tasks and materials to bring here: https://indieweb.org/2024/Berlin#Checklists — feel free to add to either/both checklists (tasks, materials)

pdf has 1 karma over the last year
#
[tantek]
I mean I'd be happy to start with a static HTML+CSS page somewhere like in an indieweb repo 🙂
#
aaronpk
PDFs are more consistent for print ready work. I don't like having to remind people to turn off the browser header/footer in print settings for example
#
[tantek]
lol true
#
[tantek]
if only there were a CSS directive for that 🙂
#
[Joe_Crawford]
There are a few predictable HTML to PDF libraries that we could put online to generate as needed. I’ve done that a few times but nothing I’ve left up online.
#
[tantek]
maybe [Joe_Crawford] can help us out with printable HTML for IndieWebCamps
#
[tantek]
submitted as a FrESH topic
#
[Joe_Crawford]
Point me at what you want I will look. I think server side is where you want it to happen. Key is to understand limits of what the renderer can understand
#
_pi_r2_0[d]
I've used wkhtmltopdf in the past
#
[Joe_Crawford]
Because Aaron is right, printer settings are just similar enough to think it will work but then you get bad output. And printers suck.
#
aaronpk
CSS to control printer settings? 🤯
#
aaronpk
The next step is CSS directives to control arbitrary USB devices
#
[mattl]
jwz spent time getting this working
#
aaronpk
Print stylesheets are cool but I was not aware of a CSS rule that can disable the header/footer in the OS print dialog

The answers in that question, and caveats proffered, are a journey.
#
[tantek]
that's a neat trick
#
[tantek]
aaronpk, I found https://github.com/indieweb/branding/ but no obvious PDFs for signs there. should we keep using that repo?
#
[tantek]
or maybe we should make a new repo for indiewebcamp materials?
#
[Joe_Crawford]
I've not used the events channel very much during FrESH but will take a shot. Hard to check it during the meeting. https://events.indieweb.org/0s34lFEYnL5Y

irony of FrESH and Open UI telcon going on at the same time

After meeting with the local venue contact I have updated (with more details) the Health and Safety rules for IWC Berlin: https://indieweb.org/2024/Berlin#Health_and_Saftey
#
[tantek]
oops frag typo. how long has that been there
#
[tantek]
summary: we will be recommending (with exceptions) but not requiring masking indoors at IWC Berlin. If you're curious about the details, please see the link /2024/Berlin#Health_and_Safety
#
[tantek]
the adjacent conference (btconf) has no masking rules or other Health and Safety requirements, so that is the baseline expectation for this IndieWebCamp. the recommendations in the wiki page are specifically designed to reduce risks with a set of recommendations that are similar to those that have been historically shown to be fairly easy to follow, and thus typically followed, by folks participating in German IndieWebCamps
#
[mattl]
https://shop.pomegranatemedical.com might be useful to bring some masks and tests
#
[tantek]
I have spare N95 masks I'll bring for folks, however am not going to bring covid tests for everyone
#
[tantek]
covid tests are relatively cheap in Germany / Berlin so I'd advise anyone considering getting/bringing to purchase them locally

I believe the IWC Berlin 2024 Health & Safety section is in alignment with the actual points 1-3 of the The Public Health Pledge, however later on in the page on that pledge, it requires masking indoors (with no exceptions, which IMO is poor rules design because people will pull down their masks to drink, have seen it), and requires testing and showing negative results, and we are not doing any of those requirements. Even W3C TPAC, one of
#
[tantek]
the last "large" conferences I know of did not require masking indoors (recommended), did not require masking or testing.
#
[tantek]
There's a larger conversation to be had, especially with regards to inclusivity or accessibility, and if any actual potential in-person participant expresses a concern about the Health & Safety for IWC Berlin, I'll share (properly anonymized) what I learn.
#
[tantek]
What I'd like to avoid is any one in particular assuming they know best for every camp and every organizer, since no IWC organizers are actual medical doctors or epidemiologists (so are not speaking from any expertise). Rather I would prefer that organizers assume good faith behaviors of each other, for the local communities that they are organizing.
#
gRegor
I think that "baseline expectation" because an adjacent event doesn't have rules is odd
