jgmac1106Didn't want to do a post about this so I could share my thoughts openly without broadcasting. I am worried Wordpress and #IndieWeb make it sound more about compliance than community. When we have to say things like , "There are only two #IndieWeb themes," or there is a "branded" plug-in that is a meta-installer for "X" other plug-ins it makes the #IndieWeb sound more like a process than principles.
tantekjgmac1106: always start with the use-case - and that should drive you towards recommending current solutions for implementing them (whichever themes / plugins), plus how to implement them yourself (community)
jgmac1106And after trying to blog and think about the process I know I am one of the biggest offenders. Looking back at my instrument designs 14 days later it was about coleting X steps and askign about the use of Y plug-ins. So as I wrap up my fourteen day #IndiewWeb all-in on WordPress experiment I want to leave with a commitment of stressing that if you are carving out your little corner of the web you are #IndieWeb. Sure their ar
tantekright, all of these "tools" and "processes" are towards the goal of controlling and owning who you are when you're online, including replacing some of your "social media" habits with "personal media" habits
jgmac1106Being able to define what happens to the media you share, yeah I dig it, but the more folks I meet around the world the more I understand control of self over contribution to community has deep western cultural influences
jgmac1106I still am firmly in the “Its my shit, I will do with it what I want” camp but its just so interesting to see how ontology an depistemology plays out across the globe.
jgmac1106tantek: "social media" has been already defined by "deep western cultural influences" and this is where I worry a bit. The focus on self in #indieweb. Does that propoagate the same thing?
