Why do we a new company to seize back control from other companies? Aren't all the pieces for the web still available on the web? Don't the open standards still work...Long been advocating for Privacy through data empowerment...just not sure another start up, even from TBL, is needed

While I trust @timberners_lee & folks behind @inrupt_inc not sure this best approach to save tweb. Just leaving #IndieWebCamp NYC, I believe  current infrastructure for privacy through data empowerment exist. W3c, is where this work occurs. (http://jgregorymcverry.com/7513-2/)

!tell tantek had random thought if we are going to provide lanyards that are not photographed we should think about always providing a space for sessions never recorded. Doesn't have to be part of board but open to those who don't want top be streamed or possibly recorded

↩️ Do keep in mind that, while the vision and specs are mature, the Solid software is currently a prototype aimed at developers. What sets Solid apart is data interoperability without centralized agreement, which (in general) is something the IndieWeb offers.

#
@jgmac1106
↩️ Agree. “data interoperability without centralized agreement” sounds like my blog and  #IndieWeb, unless we defining decentralization with no DNS, but that is a solution without a problem, that breaks many solutions to much bigger problems. (http://jgregorymcverry.com/7555-2/)

#
Zegnat
I still wonder if I should just mark all our channels as private and secret, so they do not show up on channel lists and in people’s whois... Not sure how the bots are discovering channels
#
Zegnat
Should probably just do so with -chat and maybe -meta and see if it makes a difference. And then work that into the update of IRC services commands on the wiki

Zegnat: doing it with -chat makes sense as a way to test it out
#
aaronpk
I don't know where the bots are getting their list from, it might be too late to hide it from them if the list is cached
#
Zegnat
I am probably having to run for the night soon. But I will have a look tomorrow aaronpk 👍
#
[Rose]
If I were the spammer I would definitely be caching the list as well as scanning for new channels. But that's me. I'm also _not_ a spammer.
#
[Rose]
(Cache it, in case it goes away but still works, and scan because new stuff is always good)
#
Zegnat
[Rose], it depends. If it is some sort of bot network, you add overhead by having to distribute the extra information, and keeping it updated everywhere. It could be they are all just the same script running independently from eachother. I haven’t really looked into the theories of the current attack.
#
[Rose]
True, I'm much too thorough to ever build a good network of that kind of bot, I'd be permanently bogged down in the details :P
