#[tantek]wow lots more in that thread tree (see replies to top post there) that could use pointers to direct indieweb specs/tools that do the job already
#ZegnatGuys, quick, I need to know what topics will be discussed at IWC so I can write it up as an educational trip for work! :P
#ZegnatAs I said before they are super stingy about flexworking (unless they need you to fix stuff until 23:00). But my direct boss is completely OK with marking the time as educational, meaning I wouldn’t have to work on my travel days at all
#ZegnatBut wouldn’t have to take days off for it either
#[Rose]I very much want to into syndicating all of the things to everywhere
#ZegnatBerlin is probably the easiest pitch. It is at Mozilla so there will be opportunities to talk browsers, it is Germany so there is bound to be a session on the EU directives of some kind, and I'll be continuing to work on where I left off with autoauth. Which are probably all interesting things for management.
#[Rose]I know lots of people have got this down, but I want to be able to see a tweet on Twitter and hit a reply bookmarklet (or shortcut on iOS) and voilà.
#[Rose]Definitely, browser talk is important - especially with it now being FF vs Chromium everywhere
#Zegnat"is important", well, it is something that management will probably react to, yes.
#[tantek]In particular we have to put both IndieWeb CoC and Mozilla Community Participation Guidelines on both the 2019.indieweb Page and on the Tito
#Zegnathmm, [tantek], do you no longer show HWCs in your events box in your homepage footer?
#[tantek]My events box is a manual static thing :/ and likely very out of date :(
#[jgmac1106]to clone event in ti.to tyou go to past event>customize in the left menu frame>click duplicate event button in the right frame, where on the wiki should I put this?
#[tantek]Let’s be careful about which Tito we clone
#[jgmac1106]yeah it has to be a past event, I cou;dn't find a template feature
#[jgmac1106]so I would assume Berling would clone Berlin
#[tantek][jgmac1106] if you mean where do you put the instructions / how to, please add them to somewhere findable on /IndieWebCamp_Organizing
#[jgmac1106]perfect will do when I get into the office
#[jgmac1106]and you can't get to the "clone event" from "create new event"
#[tantek]Zegnat my personal site event box (or flaws with) more dev/#indieweb than meta
#ZegnatYeah, just brought it up here because I was looking for planned upcoming HWCs in SF ;)
#[jgmac1106]what messed me up is when a new city is cloning a different city, will write it up for both scenarios
#ZegnatI was working on dragging a friend with me to IWC Utrecht, who now tells me he will be in California at the time. So obviously I need him to go attend HWC SF if the dates align
#[tantek]Question for the Germans: would it make any difference (positive or negative) if we *didn’t* charge $5 for the “normal” IWC Berlin Tito tickets?
#[tantek]Zegnat see /Events for that. I keep that more up to date than my own event box
#ZegnatWill do. I just remembered you had the box and thought that would be a quick check
#[tantek]I just checked 2018 Berlin Tito and we did NOT charge for that
#[tantek]So I’m leaning towards keeping it the same for 2019 Berlin even though that was Joschi’s Tito for 2018
#ZegnatI don’t think any of the EU events have done a charge yet. Just Summit and some of the more recent US events that started with it
#[tantek]I don’t know if different rules apply for (even just €5) charging for tickets for EU events so I’d rather not experiment / learn on this one.
#[tantek][jgmac1106] re emails please never treat anything security or privacy as absolute because that is rarely the case. It’s nearly always a case of shades on a spectrum and making things easier or harder for baddies. Especially important with any information about those less privileged and more often harassed online
#[tantek]Ie do what you want with your own personal info but never treat anyone else’s info like that
#ZegnatYes, just not of IWC unless I can get a co-organiser in Sweden ;)
#[tantek]Well even if you only help with the 2019.indieweb page and Tito, I would gladly have you as a co-organizer for Berlin (assuming you can be there :)
#ZegnatThat is a currently ongoing conversation with my employer ;)
#[jgmac1106]bye all out to office, again sorry for the plain text email tantek
#[tantek]Yes Zegnat if it makes a difference, consider yourself invited “officially” as an organizer and add yourself as such to /2019/Berlin
#ZegnatNote that sknebel is on the ground in Berlin, is definitely (I think?) attending the event, and is probably as available online as I am, if you are looking for co-organiser (who will also be taking up HWC Berlin again)
#[tantek]No worries [jgmac1106] reachable moment especially for others’s privacy & security
#[tantek]Zegnat you stepped up to help with 2019.indieweb and that’s what counts. Also ok if sknebel wants to take that over from you!
#[tantek]Either way hoping you can both make it to IWC Berlin Organizers meetup 3 May Friday
#ZegnatI’ll probably have the initial PR in a bit for people to look at. Though it will be pending tito url
#[Rose]Zegnat I can be a remote co-organiser if that helps 😛
#[tantek][jgmac1106] can you add Zegnat to Tito please?
#Zegnat[Rose], I kinda need someone on the ground to help venue and sponsor hunting. I lack the contacts. I would just be the hype man and the one with experience from attending several IWCs ;)
#[Rose]I can participate remotely, but when it's not in the same/similar timezone to me it's hard. I'm coming to Berlin, unfortunately my flight doesn't land until 4 something though
#LoqiIt looks like we don't have a page for "leftover og" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "leftover og is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#[Rose]Perhaps we can have a mini script somewhere which generates an image that is a ticket with the words "IWC [Location]" on it as a placeholder to use for each IWC until there is a better placeholder?
#[tantek]leftover og is an example of the downsides of the [[invisible metadata]] antipattern, and what happens when you update a page or copy paste a template and don’t realize you’ve kept or propagated obsolete or inapplicable [[OGP]] meta tags because they’re not visible when you view the page you’ve created; this error has happened with [[IndieWebCamp]] event pages as recently as 2018.indieweb.org.
#[eddie]But yeah, in regards to your earlier message, sknebel, we do need to set up the launching by other people. I think we last decided when discussing with aaronpk that we should use a GitHub login and check to see if the person is part of the IndieWeb org?
#sknebelsomething like that. If you can use AWS access control to allow people to just start it, I'm fine with making an account there too, at least temporarily
#sknebel(I checked if any of the DevOps "give me buttons to press to run scripts" tools I know looked like they'd be reasonably easy to indieauthify, but didn't find anything)
#[tantek][Zegnat] yes let’s go with same schedule as 2018 Berlin
#[Rose]You organise the location, I'll book a plane ticket
#sknebelhm, that might make remoting interesting (I typically don't find it works for me otherwise)
#ZegnatWell, you see, apart from a yard you could camp in, I do actually have an actual guest cabin on offer. So I was only half kidding.
#JeremycherfasIncredibly unlikely I would be able to make it, unfortunately, as it is sandwiched between two other trips.
#@cswordpressCurrent status: Making some edits to my CSS to fix some color issues and link underlines thanks to some extremely helpful and detailed feedback from a reader. I will also submit these changes to the relevant theme repos on GitHub. Feels great to improve #a11y #indieweb (twitter.com/_/status/1112734592832819202)
#ZegnatGuess we need to talk about it at tonights vHWC :D
#LoqiVirtual HWC is an online Homebrew Website Club for IndieWebbers who either can’t make a regular meeting or don’t yet have critical mass to host one in their area https://indieweb.org/vHWC
#[tantek]How long is it going on? (Until what hour)
#[tantek]Wondering how to add to Mozilla’s weekly project updates
#tantek.comedited /Events (+315) "add list items for regular HWC Wednesdays thru 2019, fix heading levels" (view diff)
[tantek] joined the channel
#[tantek]In addition to putting the very next IWC in the sidebar, I think we should consider some amount of "in advance" IWCs when they're so clustered together that after one is over people wouldn't have time to plan for the next one if they only saw it in the sidebar
#[tantek]i.e. question to answer is which IndieWebCamp(s) to put in the sidebar?
#[tantek]possible answer, the very next IWC, and any IWCs happening in the next 2 (3?) months
#[eddie]Yeah, that would be pretty awesome. If we could do a javascript script that we could include on every page that would read the h-event and automatically do the calendar stuff
#[eddie]I definitely don't think you'd want to re-do it every time, but if we have an easy to include thing
#[jgmac1106]I made zegnat a team....I didn't add a new user, fixing now
#[tantek]just verified that if you go to indieweb.org/2019 in iOS Safari and tap the Add to Calendar link it brings up an event summary with a "Add to Calendar" button at the bottom of the summary that adds it to your iOS iCal!
#[tantek]anyone else want to test it ^^^ on your mobile / browser and see if it works for you?
#[tantek](I'm so glad I'm done with the H2VX migration and can once again feel confident with depending on it, e.g. can fix things when need be)
#gRegorLove[tantek], works to import to Google Calendar, though the date is wrong in the .ics: 2019-06-30 through 2019-07-01
#gRegorLoveLet me double check. I think I downloaded it from the diff page instead of live page
#[tantek](common problem in hCalendar due to the necessity of DRY violation for dates and times in classic mf1 before <time> element support, more clever mf2 value class pattern etc.)
#gRegorLoveYep, looks good on fresh download and import.
#[tantek][gRegorLove] then the "fun" stuff begins, where should we put such "+ Add to Calendar" links/buttons and what should they look like?
#[tantek](note that you can also make hard coded Add to Calendar H2VX links that convert a specific URL, in case you want to add small "✚📆" buttons directly next to events in a list. see https://h2vx.com/ics/ for details on how to make such links)
#[tantek]also feel free to suggest a better icon / emoji combo
#gRegorLoveAnecdotally, I've used https://emojipedia.org/calendar/ on some client sites. A couple of them ended up asking us to remove it because the fixed "July 17" was confusing
#gRegorLoveI definitely like the "+ Add to Calendar" though. Maybe with some CSS to make it look like a button, different background color.
#[tantek]indeed which is why I used ✚🗓 on indieweb.org/2019
#[tantek]yes! feel free to experiment/tweak with that one in-place / in-context
#LoqiIt looks like we don't have a page for "Add to Calendar" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "Add to Calendar is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#gRegorLove(always entertaining how varied the emojis are, haha)
#gRegorLoveHm, Windows 10 shows the "1" on the spiral icon, despite what emojipedia lists
#tantek.comcreated /Add_to_Calendar (+391) "prompted by gRegorLove, stub with dfn, indieweb relevance, call to action for event UI, see also" (view diff)
