[tantek] in particular for immediate need, but also all other organizers, feedback is appreciated on these two (related) issues I just wrote up https://indieweb.org/inclusivity_statement#Issues
#
[tantek]
I think we need to be very clear about - is this an official indieweb (sponsored!) event or not? e.g. the preparty would certainly be considered official
#
[tantek]
in contrast to: a bunch of folks decide to go to Ground Kontrol and are just using the wiki to coordinate that
#
[tantek]
note that we don't actually have an inclusivity policy yet - what's there is very clearly yellow bg marked as a draft under review
#
[tantek]
and a lot of it was aspirationally written by [jgmac1106] with some feedback/modifications suggested from me
#
[tantek]
aaronpk re: 2nd issue, I think your suggestion of "tickets" instead of "drink tickets" is a good one
#
aaronpk
right, but there is also a sentence there saying that we want to adopt it in time for summit?
#
[tantek]
there was a hope that we could adopt *something* during the Organizers Summit, in time for summit
#
[tantek]
and obviously it should be consistent with what we already have planned for Summit
#
aaronpk
(also note that some of the unofficial events may be sponsored as well, tho by a particular company rather than from ticket registrations and our open collective funds)
#
[tantek]
which may be different from last year(s), and we allow ourselves room to further improve in the future (instead of being aspirational and getting it all wrong)
#
[tantek]
I think it's ok for unofficial / side events to be sponsored, as long as we're clear with the sponsors that they are in charge / responsible, and that it's a side event, not an official indieweb event
#
[tantek]
Or if they do want to sponsor / make something an official indieweb event then we have more criteria
#
aaronpk
agreed
#
[tantek]
that way a sponsor is free to make a decision on their own about what constraints they want to abide by, and label their event accordingly
#
aaronpk
as for the pre-party, which is an "official" event, i'm going to go ahead with what I described there
#
aaronpk
I looked at the menus of all the businesses in pine st market, and $12 covers a reasonable variety of food and drink options

#
[jgmac1106]
+1 to iteration and experimentation and documentation
#
[tantek]
I think that's a good way to do it for the pre-party. Keep it official. make the tickets just "tickets" rather than "drink tickets". I'd even be ok with labeling them "snack tickets" or "food tickets" as a nudge for their use
#
[jgmac1106]
And Pine St Market seems a food venue that sells alcohol rather than an alcohol centered event.
#
[tantek]
Right. It's not a bar.
#
[tantek]
Worthy distinction
#
aaronpk
yeah maybe that's even worth calling out explicitly for organizers
#
[tantek]
you mean in the proposed policy?
#
[tantek]
that's a worthy distinction to call out yes

This may be a cultural difference, but in general if someone asks me if I’d like something to drink they mean the tea/coffee/soda style drinks, not cocktails, beer or wine.

Do you think I can explain, "what the IndieWeb is, why it exists, and why there's movement to push people towards it."
#
[tantek]
what is the indieweb
#
Loqi
The IndieWeb is a community of individual personal websites, connected by simple standards, based on the principles of owning your domain, using it as your primary identity, to publish on your own site (optionally syndicate elsewhere), and own your data https://indieweb.org/IndieWeb
#
[tantek]
what is why
#
Loqi
"You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire life, that there's something wrong with the world [wide web]." — Morpheus, The Matrix Whatever the reason, you're done with others owning your content, your identity, and your self. Our online content and identities are becoming more important and sometimes even critical to our lives. Neither are secure in the hands of random ephemeral startups or big silos. We should be the holders of our online presence https://indieweb.org/why
