Do we know what the recording setup is for Brighton yet? I can bring the kit I brought to Amsterdam

* This includes: Two tripods, external webcam for the demo laptop, two conference mics, 1 iPhone and 1 iPad to host Zoom meetings, external wide angle lenses for both devices.
#
[Rose]
(And of course, cables and plugs for the above so that it actually works)
#
GWG
Did anyone ever comment on how the NYC equipment worked out? I would like to iterate?
#

GWG: [schmarty] left you a message 18 hours, 51 minutes ago: finished up my pass on the post-IWCNYC email draft at https://etherpad.indieweb.org/postnycemail please give your thoughts by, say, 4PM Eastern today (2019-10-10)
#
[jgmac1106]
Haven't had chance ywt GWG. I know want to have one camera just on the speaker as well as their screen
#
GWG
Well, we'll have to discuss how that can work.
#
GWG
I think the Utrecht model of using a computer presenting in the meeting works.

[Rose]: that'd be fantastic if you could bring that! That'll save me from carrying mine across the ocean

#
aaronpk
yes I need to post the AMS videos still. Miiiiight be able to do that today
#
[Rose]
Aaron consider it done then, but it is only the equipment for two rooms. I can bring an extra iPad but have nothing else for a 3rd room
[schmarty] joined the channel
#
aaronpk
Are we going to have 3 rooms? I can bring stuff for the third if that's the case
#
[Rose]
I have no idea what the setup is in Brighton
#
[Rose]
Looks like there's one breakout room https://indieweb.org/2019/Brighton#Venue
#
[Rose]
So we're covered with my equipment.
#
aaronpk
If you're covering breakout rooms then maybe I can bring my nicer setup for intros and demos
#
aaronpk
I decided not to bring it to Amsterdam because it started taking up a lot of space
#
[Rose]
I have the fancy Logitech webcam for 4k intros and demos if we want
#
aaronpk
It's more about the slide capture than the camera.
#
aaronpk
It's a challenge to get everyone to share their screen into zoom during demos but we could try
#
[Rose]
Ideally we'll have one laptop and everyone will use it
#
[grantcodes]
I am pro one device for presentations.
#
[grantcodes]
Also because it would reduce intro time about 50%
#
[Rose]
Demos are where it's tricky, especially for those of us who would do local development and not be ready/able to deploy it yet
#
[grantcodes]
But of course not everything people build ends up being public etc
#
[grantcodes]
Maybe a compromise is to explicitly say we'd prefer if you presented on the communal device, and if you need to use your own you can go afterwards to prevent so much switching
#
[Rose]
And also "please have the Zoom meeting open, your mic muted, and be ready to share your screen via zoom too"
#
[Rose]
Not an absolute requirement, some people prefer to demo offline, but they usually go absolutely last anyway
#
aaronpk
We usually do recommend using the shared computer but it's just not possible for some demos
#
[Rose]
(Of course, if Aaron has his Slingbox that might do the trick!)
#
aaronpk
intros we can require using the same computer tho
#
aaronpk
Yeah I'm considering bringing the SlingStudio. Tho lately I've found that some newer laptops don't play nice with it and I need to add a scaler between the laptop and the SlingStudio, which is what I did at the last donut.js
#
aaronpk
but that ends up being two boxes and power bricks to bring, which isn't a ton, but it's not nothing
#
[Rose]
I had an issue with one at MacStock this year, it wouldn't support USB C iPad Pros
#
aaronpk
Yeah whatever Apple is doing with their HDMI it's not good
#
[Rose]
I didn't have an issue with it connected directly to the projector though, or anything else HDMI that I've tried.
#
aaronpk
HDMI is unfortunately a pretty complex protocol
#
[Rose]
Yup, which is a shame
#
aaronpk
Anyway I will see if I can fit my SlingStudio on this trip because it does make the best recordings

I’m kinda done doing demos in Chrome (too many subtle things are broken) and on laptops that pop up that stupid thesaurus / dictionary thing when you click the wrong place on the trackpad
#
[tantek]
If we’re going to use a shared laptop it should have that crap click UI turned off and also be running Firefox so we can use that instead of Chrome if we opt for it. Preferably Nightly for the best CSS support

so it is that
