I have a funny feeling that in order for whatever I end up using to have all required #IndieWeb features, it's going to end up being something custom. And hopefully #dotnet, as well.

↩️ If that does end up happening, let me know. I’m comfortable with C **#** and would love to help see a C **#-adjacent** library for IndieWeb stuff come to light. (https://v2.jacky.wtf/post/084c1c15-76f4-4384-850b-ceaf81a22c54)

↩️ I find it odd ... just the fact that through it's history, the #IndieWeb has pretty much ignored #dotnet. I understand why at the beginning, but not now.

what is eating what you cook
#

It looks like we don't have a page for "eating what you cook" yet. Would you like to create it?_ (Or just say "eating what you cook is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
jacky
what is dogfooding
#
Loqi
dogfood in the context of the indieweb, refers to the software practice of "eating your own dog food" but in particular with using your own creations on your own personal site that you depend on, day to day https://indieweb.org/dogfooding

↩️ Well, the IndieWeb doesn’t necessarily have like a devrel team to help build out things for each language / stack - it’s been mostly on what people are coming in with. Like I was lucky to find a microformats2 parsing library in Elixir but I’ve had to… https://v2.jacky.wtf/post/b17e4a23-44d9-4c8f-9f6a-4e4cf9d2e5b5

I guess that is what AutoAuth is? Identity provider and service have no prior relations, but by the end of the dance the service can have granted a login to the identity that came knocking?
#
[fluffy]
Per the wiki page it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with AutoAuth
#
[fluffy]
but it is very much a thing that IndieAuth does.
#
[fluffy]
And it’s also a thing that Mastodon and Pleroma allow, although the handshaking is a bit more of a song-and-dance.
#
[fluffy]
(that said the AutoAUth song-and-dance is way more complicated)
#
Zegnat
If you see ways to cut out steps from the process, or know of other platforms that are easier, please show them [fluffy]! I would love to make my demo implementation leaner

Definitely outside of my wheelhouse. But my point was more that the wik page as written applies to a lot of federated login protocols, namely IndieAuth, and the oauth2 extensions expressed by mastodon and Pleroma.
#
[fluffy]
OpenID 1 as well, FWIW
#
[fluffy]
(May its memory be a blessing)
#
[fluffy]
I wonder what the context was for tantek to write the page. The wording implies IndieAuth doesn’t do it yet but I’m fairly certain it did by that time.
#
[fluffy]
Or maybe he did intend it to be about unattended application flows (ie AutoAuth)
#
sknebel
[fluffy]: I think that might have been when aaronpk was thinking about proposing an official OAuth extension doing that?
#
sknebel
but the page isn't really, this is fully going off memories of chat conversations

I was considering writing it up for the IETF

aaronpk
it’s specifically our use of URLs to identify clients instead of preregistered client IDs

nothing to do with auto autoauth
#
sknebel
still planning that/worth keeping the page?
#
aaronpk
probably not

Nah let’s keep it around. The way a lot of standards work is that you get disinterest or pushback the first few times you propose it and then eventually you get some interest

I have seen this happen many time in the CSSWG over the years

"Kick the can" is about doing a kick to a can
#
aaronpk
Oh lol I thought that was about dog fooding
#
[schmarty]
It's a metaphor with a trifecta of violence, laziness, and leaving litter laying around
#
[tantek]
And passthebuckism 🤦‍♂️
#
[schmarty]
goes to look up what "buck" is being passed in that saying
#
jeremycherfas
The one that stops here.
#
[schmarty]
It comes from poker?? TIL
#
aaronpk
any relation to “buck” as in dollar?
#
jeremycherfas
Nah,. I think it is the indicator of who is dealer. But I'm going on memory.
#
[tantek]
[schmarty] it’s along the litter lines. KtC is sometimes extended with “down the road” to mean make something (trash) someone else’s problem instead of solving it
#
[tantek]
Which AFAIK is also what “pass the buck” refers to though in that case there’s often an implied hierarchy and the buck stops at the top
#
[tantek]
Whereas “down the road” is either literal like make it your geo-neighbor’s problem, or often temporal, as in make it a problem for future generations to solve (eg climate)
#
[tantek]
But this is getting # chatty (I don’t see a lot of KtC or PtB in IndieWeb things) so I’ll follow up there with any more general thoughts

This seems like an important pattern documented in this thread, but I'm at a mental loss as to where it best belongs on the wiki: https://twitter.com/tressiemcphd/status/1267139405300535298.

Hi Everybody. Generally, I accept the terms of this hellsite because what else am I gonna do. But during such times maybe reconsider responding to accounts you don't know that beg for "black voices to follow"? You can't know why or what they're aggregating us for.
