Tantek was waiting to see if you did a Blocktober post or made a wiki page... But happy to start promoting Blocktober as a thing... Though I am going with through Election Day for democracies sake (sorry US centric)

GWG, that's fair, in this case this is fairly boilerplate-ish CONTRIBUTING.md that just refers to the existing README for license info
#
[tantek]
every GitHub projects (that wants to encourage contributions) should have a CONTRIBUTING.md that explains any requirements, in this case it's often easier to just refer to the README
#
GWG
Okay then.
#
[tantek]
it's no problem, I can wait for aaronpk to review
#
[tantek]
if you're unsure, better to not approve than approve for expediency

that was more me trying to explain what's going on rather than trying to justify/extract a review, to be clear

So, is there an HWC West Coast tomorrow night?

sort of, delayed start in order to give the TSD Q&A an hour beforehand

Blocktober is an idea I can get behind. Especially given how prone I am to doomscrolling in the lead up to an election that will have ridiculously high stakes. https://www.manton.org/2020/09/15/from-the-indieweb.html

↩️ people always seem to miss the point that we're not facing it, we're knee deep in it and have been for over 10 years. @wencesg there's some irony to writing a "support the indieweb" post on a site that doesn't really support any of indieweb "social trimmings" too. :/

[kimberlyhirsh] I think it is focused primarily on the most harmful social sites, in this case Facebook itself, and frankly I would add YouTube as well.

Seems it is also an indie gamer thing about posting "blockouts" of levels being designed: https://twitter.com/BlocktoberLD/status/1301263926106009600
#
@BlocktoberLD
For any #gamedev new to #blocktober, here’s a brief rundown of what it’s shaped into over the last few years: - Post “blockouts” of levels you’ve worked on during October - Could be old work, could be new, could be just for Blocktober, could be unfinished - Have fun! https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Eg8EpOHUMAEzdIn.jpg

#Blocktober : cleaning up your socials. Think about it 😅 31 accounts/31 days that you don't need in your life. Also, you could just draw blocks for 31 days. #Schlocktober: 31 drawings based on the worst films ever

Interested in what people think about the ethics of re-using a hashtag like that, though it's not used by many people, and they seem to be using it throughout the year (does seem to be a thing for at least a couple of years though)
#
[chrisaldrich]
Side benefit of Blocktober: there are already sweatshirts https://twitter.com/Dmarcus22/status/1304915222923182087
#
[chrisaldrich]
Ethically it's a tough thing to take over or potentially drown out a small community hashtag, especially one that has big use for a month with smaller use throughout a year...
#
[chrisaldrich]
Though if the alternate one-time use was for a really good cause, it might also bring some attention to the smaller community? I'm trying to think of other examples but nothing quickly comes to mind.
#
[chrisaldrich]
The only thing that quickly comes to mind is the fringe sound-o-philes who are talking about microsub(woofers), though that isn't hashtag specific.
