What is moderation?
#
Loqi
Moderation is the process of holding comments for review by a human, and sometimes a source of frustration when a comment is written on another site that the commenter has no control over https://indieweb.org/moderation
#
[chrisaldrich]
What is deplatforming?
#
Loqi
deplatforming or no platform is a form of banning in which a person or organization is denied the use of a platform (physical or increasingly virtual) on which to speak https://indieweb.org/deplatforming
#
[chrisaldrich]
deplatforming << [https://www.cigionline.org/articles/navigating-tech-stack-when-where-and-how-should-we-moderate-content Navigating the Tech Stack: When, Where and How Should We Moderate Content?] Joan Donovan (2019) article on content [[moderation]] with lots of good references.

ok, I added "[https://www.cigionline.org/articles/navigating-tech-stack-when-where-and-how-should-we-moderate-content Navigating the Tech Stack: When, Where and How Should We Moderate Content?] Joan Donovan (2019) article on content [[moderation]] with lots of good references." to the "See Also" section of /deplatforming https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=74214&oldid=53282

↩️ there's a project proposing things like this but it still ultimately relies on posting links to content on social media for discovery https://indieweb.org/

not "relies on" no
#
[tantek]
it's more accurate than not. "for discovery" is exactly the purpose of POSSE with permashortbacklinks
#
[tantek]
and put it this way, what other prominent/successful methods of discovery are folks actually using?
#
[tantek]
(for discovery of their indieweb sites & posts that is)

I'm reliving the 2018 IWS
#
[tantek]
2018 was an interesting year, first (and only?) time we held it in the traditional OS Bridge venue, that felt like a certain level of achievement
#

I'm checking the old posts on my site.
#
[tantek]
lots of very good technical discussions, some of which I feel may still be open! (there was that one about "types" or "extensibility" or something with Manton in it that I can't quite remember where it ended up but we had figured some stuff out about photos etc.)

2016 was particularly fun I remember, the organizers summit was great

I’m in shock that the vociferous argument for an #indieweb is now being coopted by those who have no clue - @kevinmarks @tantek @evanpro

[tantek]: Oh what?
#
[tantek]
That tweet ^
#
[Raphael_Luckom]
I find that tweet hard to parse. The only interpretation that I can think of is "people I don't like are trying to use their personal agency for things I don't like." If that's the argument, I'm not sure what to respond besides "yeah, that's how it works."
#
[tantek]
[KevinMarks] and I know Debs personally so that’s an “informal” tweet
#
[Raphael_Luckom]
oh nvm
#
[KevinMarks]
I did a podcast with Debs and Heather on how to bring more human values to tech
#
[tantek]
I mean your interpretation is still valid. It’s a public tweet so one has to expect that folks unaware of context will be reading it
#
[Raphael_Luckom]
eh, there's no reason for me to gratuitously "well actually" anybody if I can know better.
#
[KevinMarks]
I need to sort that site out and make it static I think
#
[tantek]
[Raphael_Luckom] also true :)
