[tantek]heads-up folks, I know we've been preferring Twitch for livestreaming (for folks that don't have streaming from their own website aaronpk 😛 ) — however, there's a boycott going on for Twitch's lack of responsiveness to calls for safety of streamers: https://www.npr.org/2021/09/01/1032873942/twitch-boycott-hate-raid-attacks (TW: racism, racist remarks)
aaronpkIIRC maybe one or two a few years ago when we first started talking about not using youtube, then we switched to the DIY one at https://indieweb.live and my plan for the next time we need to do that is to install OwnCast on https://indieweb.live
Loqistreaming is a method of content delivery where the user can start viewing or listening to media without downloading the entire file in advance https://indieweb.org/streaming
aaronpkstreaming was for the case of streaming prerecorded content rather than having to download the whole thing, then live streaming came along later where the content is also produced live
aaronpkIMO these days the original page on "streaming" isn't really necessary since it's not particularly novel anymore. in 2016 when it was created I think it may have been more relevant as a standalone page
[tantek]we certainly don't want to do what most corps are doing with big splashy BLM or inclusivity statements, then no actual follow-up on hiring, promoting, exec-hiring, board seats etc.
[tantek]to be clear, I'm open to other language that says how we take deliberate steps to be more open / inclusive, but it must include those actions rather than just claiming we are or intend or want to be "inclusive".
tantek.comedited /community (+237) "/* Wiki Users */ add 2017 & 2018 manually, along with Special: page in comments for doing it again manually. slower than a SQL query for sure" (view diff)
[tantek]ok tried to better distinguish /streaming vs /live_streaming. Take a look folks and see if those definitions make more sense than before, and if it's easier to spot the differences with the links back/forth right after the dfn
[tantek]looks like 2014 was a peak year, then new members dipped til 2017 (that was a sad/overwhelming year for many), then have gradually crept up since
[tantek]we have a lot of gardening / creating metaphors in IndieWeb principles etc. I'm wondering if we could also use some number of sailing / exploring metaphors, for folks that find that appealing
[tantek]all of a sudden we had greatly decreased cognitive/emotional budgets because we had to deal with an unstable & abusive leader and the prospects of what random harm could happen or be enabled tomorrow, next week/month etc.
[tantek]GWG, short answer is re-assessment of personal needs, better understanding of which needs are not being met, and taking actions towards getting them met. when needs are met, we have more energy and cognitive/emotional bandwidth to do more extra curricular things
