petermolnar, I'll agree that the wording is a bit awkward. can you think of a way to reference identity loss as part of "why" that reads better than that?

#

Probably not

[tantek]
GWG, did you follow the import/export conversation in #indieweb-dev and specifically about WordPress import/expert as a service? WPIEAAS?

#

I was stuck at work, catching up on scroll up before HWC
#
[tantek]
when is HWC?
#
[tantek]
^ can we get that to work? or is "When is" now obsolete as a Loqi request and needs to be rewritten to work with events.indieweb?
#
[tantek]
possible idea: take the phrase after "when is", treat it as a tag, look up e.g. "https://events.indieweb.org/tag/hwc", figure out the first *day* that an event listed there is happening, then collect all non-cancelled events from that day to that day+6, then output them in response clustered by day, then output that tag URL that was used to look them up, e.g.
#
[tantek]
The next HWC event(s) is(are): On Dec 22, 2021, at 6pm: Homebrew Website Club - The Americas. https://events.indieweb.org/2021/12/homebrew-website-club-the-americas-947hzBq9MKbj
#
[tantek]
^ in this case, if there's only one event that matches that "search" ("first *day* that an event listed there is happening, then collect all non-cancelled events from that day to that day+6") then link directly to that one event, instead of the to events tag URL
#
[tantek]
in this case if Nottingham had not been canceled, then two events would have matched and the response should look something like:
#
[tantek]
The next HWC events are: On Dec 22, 2021, at 5:30pm: UTC Homebrew Website Club: Nottingham, and at 6pm PST: Homebrew Website Club - The Americas. https://events.indieweb.org/2021/12/22
#
[tantek]
^ in this case, multiple events, however, on only one day, so the URL links to that specific day
#
[tantek]
if there were multiple HWC events over multiple days (up to 6 day range) like we used to have, then it would link to the tag: https://events.indieweb.org/tag/hwc
#
[tantek]
^ aaronpk is that enough of an algorithm to start prototyping an update to "when is" that uses events.indieweb instead of the wiki?
#
[chrisaldrich]
edgeduchess[d], looking at your messages yesterday... I've only just started delving into it, but I can't help but think of dev.to which is using the open source Forem as their platform. Its got some of the social built in with a blog like product. Might be worth looking at as a model for the problem(s) you're trying to solve. In some sense it seems to be a little bit of blog+forum+open source

Static site generators or SSGs are programs that take a set of flat text files on disk and transforms them into a set of static HTML files ready to be served by a standard web server, or some variation of this example https://indieweb.org/SSG

Catching up, thanks folks for digging up the blog archive format stuff from a few years ago. I still think it’s useful to have a simple, single file archive… Data Transfer Project and similar solutions are fine but (I think) really only good for a one-time transfer between services, not for having a file you can backup or restore later.

I'm think that instead of waiting and doing it as part of a whole camp, perhaps we devote a two to three hour block as a stand alone pop up? Perhaps in February to give folks some time to plan?
#
[manton]
I'd be good with a pop-up.

Sorry we didn't tag you into it [manton] but this recent tweet (https://twitter.com/ChrisAldrich/status/1470626749734010880) and it's various branches have me thinking a lot about this too.
#
@ChrisAldrich
@Weegee @goodreads @thestorygraph @readandbreathe It looks like yet-another-silo in the merry-go-round of social reading sites. I prefer #IndieWeb solutions like @gRegorLove's https://indiebookclub.biz/, an app/platform that posts your book reading data & updates to your own website.

I'll stub out a piece and see what we can do.
#

what are pop ups?

Related, not sure if anyone here noticed but I built a books app for iOS and Android called Epilogue. It’s a bit silo-ish right now, but open source… Posts to Micro.blog with Micropub of course. https://epilogue.micro.blog
#
[manton]
It’s mostly JavaScript so could be extended without much native platform experience.
#
@mikekasprzak
The "IndieWeb" project seems interesting. Best I can tell is that it expands on OAUTH2, with the goal of encouraging everyone to self-host an authentication server instead of relying on Google/Twitter/Facebook. There's also some blog federation stuff.

tracydurnell[d], I've created a wiki page for Analog meets Online at https://indieweb.org/2022/Pop-ups/Analog_meets_Online, feel free to make any changes to suit the session. I've put some default items in some slots and hopefully copied the appropriate details over from the event/RSVP page. Hopefully it makes it easier to cut/paste notes in when things are done.
#
tracydurnell[d]
@chrisaldrich thank you!
#
tracydurnell[d]
I started a page but it's a lot cruddier than what you made 🙂 https://indieweb.org/2022/Pop-ups/AnalogMeetsOnline is there a way to delete mine?
#
[tantek]
better to keep/rename the original page (yours tracydurnell[d]) and merge in the content from the new page
#
[chrisaldrich]
I didn't see it linked anywhere so apologies for the duplication... is it better to have spaces/underlines or CamelCase on the URL
#
[tantek]
and then leave a redirect behind at the new page
#
[chrisaldrich]
I'll take care of the merge then.... and make sure it links up to the appropriate 2022 pages.
#
tracydurnell[d]
thank you @chrisaldrich!
#
tracydurnell[d]
I think you could just write over everything I had in there
#
[tantek]
wikifying << to-do: add a section advising on the naming of multiword wiki pages, specifically encouraging folks to "just" use multiple words, or explicitly use dashes or underscores between words, rather than WikiCase or camelCase
#
Loqi
ok, I added "to-do: add a section advising on the naming of multiword wiki pages, specifically encouraging folks to "just" use multiple words, or explicitly use dashes or underscores between words, rather than WikiCase or camelCase" to the "See Also" section of /wikifying https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?diff=78593&oldid=78305
#
tracydurnell[d]
thanks for the naming guidance @tantek 🙂
#
[chrisaldrich]
so I'll move everything from Tracy's page to the /2022/Pop-ups/Analog_meets_Online page based on that guidance then.
#
tracydurnell[d]
I think you have all the content I had, so I don't think there's anything you need to pull over
#
[tantek]
[chrisaldrich] not quite see above precisely
#
[tantek]
better to always keep the first page created on the subject, even if the name was suboptimal, and then rename it
#
[tantek]
keeping the history of the first page created (and it's earlier creation date) is worth it
#
[chrisaldrich]
okay then... that works too..
#
[tantek]
its* earlier creation date
#
[tantek]
