GWG, were the IndieMark&generations to-do items in webmention-developer completed somewhere?
#
[tantek]
removing them without comment (edit note) makes it hard to understand why they were removed
#
GWG
[tantek]: I thought we stopped using those terms going forward....you are right...I should have commented on why
#
[tantek]
nah, we said they needed replacement, except none of the critics of the terms came up with a reasonable / better replacement so no
#
[tantek]
we don't tear things down just because of critics who don't have a better idea
#
[tantek]
I'll revert for now

#
[tantek]
this thing about not catering to tear-down critics is important, because otherwise you're vulnerable to concern trolls tricking you into tearing down your own work
#
GWG
I still want to improve these pages which I find dated
#
GWG
[tantek]: I have been thinking about it since that twitter conversation...I am not sure my approach works though
#
[tantek]
which twitter convo?
#
GWG
[tantek]: The one where I tried to explain webmention. Not specifically relevant... just the inspiration.
#
[tantek]
well, who was it that was confused about why there is /webmention and /webmention-developer? the short reason is so that /webmention can be improved to be more understandable by more people (less jargon, more focus on user-centric use-cases, less plumbing details) and move all the developer focused stuff to (like "HTTP post") to /webmention-developer
#
GWG
And do you know why both pages have examples?
#
[tantek]
because both pages are in transition
#
GWG
Transition to?
#
[tantek]
literally the previous statement I said above šŸ¤¦
#
[tantek]
"can be improved to be" <-- = in transition
#
GWG
Okay, I guess I will try another run
#
[tantek]
do you understand what content makes the page more user-centric vs developer-centric? that's the key to advancing that transition
#
GWG
User concentric to me is about why, developer centric is about how.
#
[tantek]
sorta, users have "hows" as well
#
GWG
Yes, nothing is 100% one way or the other
#
[tantek]
there are both user & developer whys & hows
#
GWG
Yes

@grmpyprogrammer
My goal this week is to build a new Grumpy Learning site that is the centre of all my online nonsense while also doing some IndieWeb stuff and let me tell you I am already grumpy about some of the external dependencies folks are recommending

Re: /Webmention-developer, I believe when the page was set up we *intentionally* moved (most?) examples there. I think we left a few examples on /Webmention and linked to the full list on -developer.
#
gRegor
Should probably review the edit history and chat logs around that time
#
gRegor
And this edit has the reasoning for moving the examples: https://indieweb.org/wiki/index.php?title=Webmention&oldid=34711
#
Loqi
[tantek] I'm thinking of building on that work - and moving a bunch of the page to something like /Webmention-developer
#
GWG
Sigh
#
GWG
I feel that I just can't tackle this job without hitting something
#
GWG
Maybe I should tackle something else
#
gRegor
Well it's good to resurface why we made changes and make sure they're still good / clear to everyone, so don't be discouraged :)
#
gRegor
I bet the examples thing wasn't clear, which led to more people adding onto /Webmention over the last few years

So maybe summarize and link is better

What is editing the wiki?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "editing the wiki" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "editing the wiki is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[chrisaldrich]
What is wikifying?
#
Loqi
wikifying is the practice of capturing information and ideas on the wiki https://indieweb.org/wikifying

[tantek] would it be helpful to have a bot that scans the wiki and adds an archived version to any 404 / broken links.
#
capjamesg[d]
I see a few domains are no longer active. Having an archived link next to pages, if available, would aid navigation across the wiki.
