what is Massive Wiki
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "Massive Wiki" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "Massive Wiki is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[aciccarello]
[https://massive.wiki/ Massive Wiki] is a collection of Open Source tools for building an wiki website with static files. It is used by at least one IndieWeb site.

[preview] [Joe Crawford] This weekend I’ll be participating in IndieWebCamp San Diego 2023. That title is large, but the event will be small and outdoor, befitting the current scary age as we reckon with our nearly-but-not-quite post-COVID age. As a longtime San Diegan I w...

Nice graphic, could use that as featured image on the events.indieweb.org

haha great timing

[Joe_Crawford], typo "ourdoor" vs outdoor
#
[Joe_Crawford]
Muchicimas gracias!
#
gRegor
ooh, I like your updated "like" design, the avatar as a star
#
[Joe_Crawford]
You're my only likes gRegor πŸ˜„
#
gRegor
I bet this post will get some more :)
#
[Joe_Crawford]
CSS Battle has trained me to love clip-paths despite myself
#
sknebel
its funny how when you scroll the star stays above the top menu though :D
#
[Joe_Crawford]
Odd, top menu is set to sticky, I may need to set a position. All my theme is handrolled and dependent on the kindness of strangers to point out how it sucks πŸ˜›

[tantek] How did you find out about the Meta meeting?
#
[Joe_Crawford]
I added a z-index of 1 to the nav and it seems not to happen. A peculiar clip-path interaction. Adding position to the clipped img itself or its parent did nothing
#
[tantek]
[capjamesg] they reached out to me via their W3C AC rep, which makes sense since I'm Mozilla's W3C AC Rep

[tantek]
[Joe_Crawford]++ for the IWC SD post and there we have a present for the IndieWeb Gift Calendar too!

[tantek] That process feels untransparent to me.
#
capjamesg
"Meta will discuss their proposed plan to integrate Threads into the Fediverse and encourage constructive feedback on the proposal." - it really matters from whom you gather "constructive feedback."
#
capjamesg
Having an invite only meeting necessarily limits your ability to gather feedback.
#
gRegor
Meta? untransparent? 😲
#
gRegor
[Joe_Crawford], is it ok to upload your banner image from that post to https://events.indieweb.org/2023/12/indiewebcamp-san-diego-2023-ZEDdVaxIcQjz ?

I’m driving now, and I don’t object

[Event Updated] gregorlove.com updated "Dec 16 - 17, 2023 IndieWebCamp San Diego 2023" changed cover_image "cover image" https://events.indieweb.org/event/548/history/1521/diff
#
[tantek]
capjamesg it is less than 100% transparent indeed!
#
[tantek]
there's a whole potential discussion of what to do and how to engage when invited to something invite-only, that I believe has a lot of positive potential
#
[tantek]
E.g. given the Chatham House Rules, I recognized that it was still within my capacity to offer to take a small group photo of the few of us who would be willing to opt-in to a photo to be published publicly. The consequence of asking that question and inviting anyone to opt-in resulted in the vast majority gathering for the group photo, which, then everyone in it effectively opted in to have their presence at the meeting publicly documented
#
[tantek]
The opportunity in participating in invite-only or semi-closed events is to nudge them towards more transparency & openness, and shift the default culture in those contexts accordingly
#
gRegor
Oh interesting, didn't realize that wasn't a planned photo
#
[tantek]
Indeed, added a bit of text to the event summary to note the opt-in nature of it
#
[tantek]
Another example (of nudging towards more transparency & openness), I have been doing this at W3C with nudging the AB towards a lot more work "in the open" since 2013 https://www.w3.org/wiki/AB/2013-2014#Background, as part of both an initial push (creating public W3C AB wiki home page, and a @/w3cab Twitter account https://www.w3.org/wiki/AB/2013-2014#Twitter_Account when elected) and continued sustained effort as part of the Open AB
#
[tantek]
what are data dialogues
#
Loqi
Data Dialogues (AKA Data Dialogue Series) are three hour interactive and interdisciplinary workshops hosted by Meta Platforms, focused on privacy challenges in rapidly evolving product areas, such as Threads and ActivityPub https://indieweb.org/Data_Dialogues

That makes sense.

Yep. I hadn't looked at it in the page yet, just saw the photo from the upload logs

[tantek]
That context/caption also went out in the newsletter alongside the photo

gRegor
nice!
#
[tantek]
also re: "Meta? untransparent?", I mean nearly any larger corp or even startup
#
[Joe_Crawford]
Way back when I remember signing NDAs with startups just for a job interview. Maybe 3x. In retrospect none of those were doing anything novel even at the time.
#
[tantek]
that's even worse. yeah, if at all possible don't sign NDAs with parties who aren't paying you specifically for what you are NDAing about. certainly not any blanket NDAs. tell them instead they are entitled to a CC-BY license to your contributions

[Joe_Crawford]
A good addition [tantek]
#
[tantek]
I honestly believe A LOT of transmission would be stopped if people followed those airport, hospital, pharmacy protocols
#
gRegor
Right? It's maddening going to the doctor's office
#
gRegor
update looks good

thanks for the check gRegor & [Joe_Crawford]
