[tantek] Every time you resubmit your posts they show up as a new feed entry in stream.indieweb.org
#
aaronpk
what does "resubmit" mean here?
#
pcarrier
He was experimenting with making changes and posting updates through the fed.brid.gy, IDK what the implications were for the feeds consumed by stream.indieweb.org. I'll let him answer 🙂
#
aaronpk
hmm, it's using the rss feed from mastodon, but as long as the post URL doesn't change between updates it shouldn't be duplicating it
#
[tantek]
pcarrier, what you're seeing in #indieweb-stream is a bit weird and a side-effect of stream picking up both posts directly from my h-feed and from Mastodon tags feeds.
#
[tantek]
I need to add rel canonical or maybe a uid
#
[tantek]
I have to change the slug in order to get Bridgy Fed to retry federating a post that failed in Masto
#
aaronpk
ah that makes sense
#
[tantek]
That may also be causing it to show up as "new" in feed consumers
#
aaronpk
i don't have a good way to dedupe those either
#
[tantek]
I may need to do more work on my end aaronpk to make that more easily possible
#
aaronpk
well even if you did, i just don't have that kind of cross-source deduping capability right now
#
[tantek]
Right. There's multiple de-duping problems here
#
aaronpk
there's also the question of verifying the links, since it shouldn't be possible for a site to just claim that it's a copy of another site
#
aaronpk
so really it needs bidirectional links between the two sources
#
[tantek]
or redirects
#
[tantek]
which I believe already works, e.g. the fed.bridgy URLs of my posts all redirect when you do an accept text/html to my tantek .com permalinks
#
aaronpk
yeah that would work

#
pcarrier
right, but did you add to your h-feed, or did you update in place? if you update in-place, should it appear in the stream today instead of a few days ago when initially posted?
#
[tantek]
update in place
#
[tantek]
noting that when you update the slug of a post "in place", most feed file consumers / consuming code will interpret that as "new post"
#
[tantek]
which is likely why you're seeing the "appear in the stream today"

aaronpk
no you weren't added yet. i'm getting some sort of parsing error with the jsonfeed, i don't know why
#
aaronpk
oh there it goes
#
pcarrier
is my JSON no good?
#
aaronpk
i think it's fine. not sure what the glitch on my end was

Thoughts on updating "it also makes sense to POSSE all your RSVPs as you would any other reply or note (e.g. to Twitter etc.)" to "Fediverse, Bluesky" instead of Twitter?
