[tantek] 🤔 [benatwork] what do you really mean by "squeezing long-form content into a microblogging platform"? Do you consider my "long notes" as "long-form content"? Do you think they don't read well inside Mastodon or similar? Or in full on my home page? Actually curious as to your thoughts, not clapping back, as I think I have done a reasonably usable job of squeezing medium & long notes into a "stream format" (my home page).

It's more to do with Mastodon's UX, where content scrolls by and most of it is a 30 second read and some of it is actually much longer with an awkward "read more" CTA smashed in the middle of it (and rich context like images is largely removed)

[tantek] that's definitely a more challenging area

[tantek] also that's a client UX problem I would argue, not a "platform" problem
#
[tantek] it shouldn't matter how or where people publish or with which platform
#
[tantek] your social reader should do the right thing for your viewing comprehension, recall, (re)discoverability of content etc

[KevinMarks] I think phanpy.social does a really good job of both expanding the long posts and dealing with the threaded ones (both single-author threads and forking threads). I'm so used to it that I get puzzled by default mastodon ux for forking threads now.
