[asuh] GWG, I probably haven’t done enough reading to understand this, but what is the thought behind SL plugin having its own anonymous Gravatar icon that is currently user-secret.svg? What’s the advantage of providing this vs using the default icon in WordPress?

GWG asuh, it was a mistake in implementation. Part of the privacy enhancements. I fixed it two weeks ago, pfefferle is releasing it now.

GWG So, the plugin was requesting gravatars for webmentions that didn't even have email addresses
#
GWG So, the fixes store a locally cached copy of the default mystery man gravatar and use that if there is no email on file.

GWG And if there is an email on a webmention and no photo in the h-card, it goes out to gravatar and asks if there is an image and caches the answer

GWG If you want to go further, I recommend Avatar Privacy. Active developer who is a Semantic Linkbacks user.

[asuh] Caching avatars, especially now with GDPR and privacy needs, should already be a default of WordPress. I’m happy to know it’s a priority for at least SL.
