How's that Kind Menu looking? https://tiny.n9n.us/blog/
[jgmac1106] joined the channel
#
[jgmac1106]
Looks decent on mobile... I shutter at the word floats..... Almost PTSD trying make things go where they just refused to go...
#
[jgmac1106]
Just place holder text though. Menu functions

GWG looks great
#
[asuh]
Taking suggestions?
#
GWG
[asuh]: Always
#
[asuh]
ok, back in a few minutes
#
[asuh]
No IE11 icon support, right?
#
GWG
The Kind icons are all SVG, so nothing Ie11 specific as far as I know
#
[asuh]
IE11 does not support SVG sprites using <use>, but it’s less of a problem as time moves on
#
GWG
Interesting.
#
GWG
Did not know that
#
GWG
But I'm on Linux, so it probably never came up
#
GWG
I will have to look into that
#
[asuh]
SVG sprites are awesome but if I need IE support, I avoid sprites
#
[asuh]
I’m not sure the lowest version you’re supporting
#
[asuh]
My only suggestion is moving icons inside of anchor, matter of preference I suppose
#
GWG
Let's see how it looks, I suppose
#
[asuh]
Anything else I write is more pedantic but I prefer to use class names for CSS styling. This would be in case I need to override
#
GWG
You mean over ID?
#
[asuh]
in addition to
#
GWG
Because there are classes.
#
GWG
I tend to mix
#
[asuh]
oh right, i forgot to say on #kind-menu
#
GWG
I try to be minimal, because I really want the themes to be more opinionated.
#
[asuh]
Yes, that makes sense
#
GWG
[asuh]: That's why, every kind layout can actually be overridden in the theme by copying the file to a subfolder in your theme and editing it
#
[asuh]
that’s a good feature to provide so that files don’t load twice
#
GWG
It's the same way WordPress loads its theme. It looks in the view subdirectory of your theme, if not, uses the one in the plugin.
#
GWG
Also, I'm not really a designer per se, so minimalist means it will still work no matter what theme you use, but its easy to mod
#
[asuh]
I learned something new. I did not know it was possible to do this with plugin assets
#
GWG
[asuh]: I wrote the code to do it.
#
[asuh]
That would be good to have in the FAQ on the repo
#
[asuh]
I see a casual mention of it in the changelog
#
GWG
I'm adding a note as we talk
#
GWG
I think chrisaldrich was the one who commented he learns more about the hidden features of my work on the podcast then in my documentation
#
GWG
Should be better about that.
#
[asuh]
Documentation is tedious, I get it. You just to want to deliver asap
#
[asuh]
I’ve also reviewed and implemented many of the 2016 changes you made to fit the theme on my site. Hoping to get around to releasing them as standalones for any theme
#
GWG
Well, remember, I write it for my own use. But truthfully, I write training manuals at work all the time.
#
GWG
[asuh]: I just did a few more.
#
[asuh]
looks like i have a few more updates to commit
#
GWG
Added rel-feed support, for one.
#
GWG
And a lot of tweaks to support a non-feed front page
#
[asuh]
I tested out the integrated Brid.gy in Syndication Links and I think that needs a little tweak.
#
GWG
Oh?
#
GWG
What specifically?
#
GWG
I'm finally using it, so that is motivation for me
#
[asuh]
GWG when I bookmarked and didn’t add an author, it still tried to include something that wasn’t there in the tweet: https://twitter.com/asuh/status/1070146642274344960

Bookmarked What Doctors Know About CPR by an author _( Topic)_ > On TV, a few pushes on their chest is enough to bring someone back to life. The truth is more complicated. This contains some very interesting insight into CPR, things I was not aware of… https://asuh.com/cpr/

#
[asuh]
specifically, “by an author _( Topic)_”
#
GWG
That is a Post Kinds issue
#
GWG
Will have a look.

New release soon

Still doing bug fixes

GWG does Post Kinds support the Micropub post type query?
#
[eddie]
Thinking through features that might require post type query support for them to work 🙂

Gotcha, that’s helpful to know. Thanks!
#
[jgmac1106]
... Thinking custom buttons [eddie]?
#
[eddie]
Thinking follow posts
#
[eddie]
But follow posts to a Micropub server that doesn’t understand them is bad, but this isn’t Wordpress anymore so we can talk in dev about the rest
#
[jgmac1106]
@gwg how does Indigenous recognize post types from the post kind plugin now? Could you make a follow post kind and have that get recognized?

#
GWG
Theoretically
#
[jgmac1106]
How do we turn theory into practice?
#
GWG
You convince me to prioritize follow posts, which are on my list
#
GWG
I put it on the list at Summit
#
GWG
jgmac1106, all the h-card talk did prompt me to work on mine
#
[jgmac1106]
Cool @gwg will check it out... In away the post kind menu becomes the feed menu... But I could still see use case of adding a few feeds I would like to highlight in my h-card
#
GWG
jgmac1106, new idea I just noted.
#
GWG
Recent Posts widget filtered by kind
#
[jgmac1106]
May also experiment with p-note=😊 for mood or status...
#
[jgmac1106]
... Great idea! There are no known bugs in existing plugins before introducing new functionality? Always my first new feature question
#
[jgmac1106]
Love idea of recent post filter... Just posted an image of how Tumblr does this
#
GWG
Posted where?
#
GWG
There are plenty of bugs
#
GWG
I'm working on ones in Post Kinds concurrently
#
GWG
Not all are showstoppers
#
GWG
I am amused that I am doing widgets and shortcodes and Gutenberg is going to kill them tomorrow
#
[jgmac1106]
Yeah forgot tomorrow is judgement day
#
GWG
I am ignoring it for now
#
GWG
I might have to deal with it later
#
GWG
If I did, it would be trying Simple Location first. Easiest to fit into that model

Hi, jackjamieson
#
jackjamieson
Hi GWG, I'm just looking at your parse-this updates
#
GWG
It should fix things
#
GWG
Lots more tuning
#
jackjamieson
Just tested, and both the issues I posted yesterday are fixed. Thank you!
#
jackjamieson
I saw you mentioned some debate about whether to return mf2 and jf2 json rel-alternates - mind if I ask for more context?
#
GWG
Well, jf2feed is the mime type for a jf2feed.
#
GWG
mf2+json and jf2+json are alternate on single pages
#
jackjamieson
Ah, I see. So used for single posts rather than feeds?
#
GWG
It could be either, but in order to tell, you have to retrieve and parse them
#
GWG
So, I decided that it was easier to just parse the page and get the Microformats at that point
#
jackjamieson
That seems reasonable to me
#
GWG
And I filed an issue to use jf2feed in the WordPress feed plugin
#
GWG
I should do a PR
#
GWG
Tell me if you find anything else
#
jackjamieson
That's a good idea - I'll keep an eye out for any sites that use jf2+json or mf2+json, and I'll keep testing as much as I can
#
GWG
Islandinthenet was failing because he has oembed rel alternates
#
jackjamieson
Ah, I didn't see that earlier
#
jackjamieson
Actually I just noticed a notice that keeps occurring in Parse_This::fetch_feeds()
#
jackjamieson
Notice: Undefined index: _feed_type in (...)/vendor/parse-this/includes/class-parse-this.php on line 207
#
jackjamieson
I'll create an issue with some details
#
GWG
That's what I thought I just fixed. I will have a look tonight
#
GWG
Must be another case I missed
#
GWG
What's next for you?
#
jackjamieson
I'm doing some testing on the new polling schedule to make sure its adjusting correctly. And I'd still like to see if conditional requests could be useful (especially for rarely updated sites)
#
jackjamieson
Other than that, continued parse-this testing and then writing some documentation
#
GWG
So, what is left before an alpha/beta release?
#
jackjamieson
Those are the big things
#
jackjamieson
Minor things are:
#
jackjamieson
improving the indieauth code, but I'll leave that up to your judgement
#
jackjamieson
searching for rss feeds directly
#
jackjamieson
The other thing I want to figure out, but that I'm stumped with is that Yarns doesn't work with indigenous for iOS
#
GWG
My code does that
[eddie] joined the channel
#
[eddie]
Knowing you are getting near completion I'll be sure to check on it
#
[eddie]
Checking Yarns from Indigenous is on my shorter-term list :)
#
jackjamieson
Thanks [eddie], Indigenous will probably be my main reader so I'm keen to figure this out. Much appreciated!
#
[eddie]
Gotcha, I'll definitely work on that then :)
#
[eddie]
I'll ping you once I have something
#
jackjamieson
Fantastic, thank you [eddie]!
#
jackjamieson
GWG: Do you mean that your code searches for rss feeds directly? It does, but returns the parsed feed. I'll write up more details on the issue
