Gwg what's up?
#
[jgmac1106]
chrisaldrich why do you think I left WordPress? Writing a book shouldn't be that hard.

GWG
[jgmac1106]: Working on some slugs
#
[jgmac1106]
Yeah it is fun just going through installatron and trying random stuff
#
[jgmac1106]
But really a book theme would be easy.. Pressbook gets heavy if a shared host needs to charge more...
#
[jgmac1106]
Remix adactio's book. I stripped out the AMP pages, made some early navigation mistakes but good template. Uses multiple images rather than resizing img which I updated

[chrisaldrich] is it for publishers then? Like a reseller. Though Reclaim has a ton of institutional customers... Probably a smart up sell.. And you say it requires more
#
chrisaldrich
PressBooks is doing some generally heavy lifting in terms of the additional lifting it's doing which makes it far less than your average beast. In fact they say specifically not to add pressbooks on top of a pre-existing WordPress install as it will cause major problems.
#
chrisaldrich
It's probably best to think of PressBooks as a WordPress fork that's been heavily customized for book publishing.
#
chrisaldrich
jgmac1106, the tough question is what and how should an online book look like? There are lots of ways to accomplish it.
#
chrisaldrich
kfitz had an interesting way of implementing her book writing and implementing years ago.
#
chrisaldrich
moving to #indieweb...

It is just a filter.
#
GWG
Wasn't sure how opinionated Micropub should be on the matter, so I just made it easily changeable.
#
[Rose]
I like the sound of that
#
GWG
Remoting in this weekend?
#
[Rose]
After checking my calendar, I can! Or I can try πŸ˜„
#
GWG
Hope we get good remote attendance
#
[Rose]
Well, as I'm actually on WP for this one, that's a good start πŸ˜›
#
GWG
There could be a WP session
#
[Rose]
That also means that I can work on things which will hopefully be useful!

Like?
#
GWG
I'm curious what you are considering
#
[Rose]
I'm not sure yet, but there's lots of issues on various GitHub repos which would be good things to look at
#
GWG
Better late than never.
#
GWG
[Rose]: I put my ideas there as I have them
#
GWG
I encourage others to as well
#
[Rose]
I have seen several!
#
GWG
[Rose]: Any in particular? Any area you are itching to improve?
#
[Rose]
Well, a personal project I really need to do is sorting out my template so it has proper microformats.
#
GWG
I selfishly want more active WordPress people
#
[Rose]
And I want to make really good shortcut that will let you post to micropub with all the formats - basically Quill as Shortcuts, but with some enhancements (quote tweeting, etc.)
#
[Rose]
Though that's a general indieweb one rather than a WordPress one.
#
GWG
As an Android user, can't help you there
#
GWG
Except on the Micropub sidr
#
GWG
side
#
[Rose]
It'll be easy enough to do - just have to guide people through getting and saving their token
#
GWG
Not every Indieauth implementation offers backend token generation though
#
[Rose]
I know, thinking about how to handle that
#
GWG
I built it mostly for debugging
#
GWG
Gimmeatoken?
#
[Rose]
But I can start with "You have a way to get a token somehow" and expand later
#
[Rose]
That could work πŸ™‚
#
GWG
For WordPress, you have it
#
[Rose]
Yup, and because Quill shows it to you most people can get it I hope
#
[Rose]
Walking people through authentication is probably best served in a separate shortcut to be honest
#
[Rose]
Oh, I really want to get a list of upcoming places where people can meet me onto my site
#
aaronpk
I think there's a shortcut that does that already?
#
aaronpk
I forget who made it
#
[Rose]
I've made a few
#
petermolnar
past events: how much control do you have over of your theme, [Rose]?
#
[Rose]
It's my theme
#
petermolnar
digging his archives for code
#
[Rose]
As in, I grabbed the Genesis sample child theme, and modified it
#
[Rose]
I was debating using a plugin and creating custom files in my theme with microformats - but most of these plugins are crazy big
#
petermolnar
damn. I forgot my wp theme was twig based, I can't use that code.
#
[jgmac1106]
[Rose] for events?
#
[Rose]
I know twig
#
[jgmac1106]
I am real close on hacking two plugins
#
[jgmac1106]
I just accidentally injected in one h-entry in my theme.. Have a meeting now.. But will share if meeting gets boring
#
[Rose]
GWG you've definitely given me a great starting point with support for events in post kinds
#
GWG
I try
#
[jgmac1106]
if my theme didn't inject the h-entry it would be fine, I need to move the enddate time
#
[jgmac1106]
[Rose] you or @gwg could easily hack on this plugin only needs a few changes
#
[jgmac1106]
Event Calendar WD is what I am working on

I support events from Micropub only right now

GWG
[jgmac1106]: Think there will be newbies who need guidance?
#
GWG
I could do a repeat of what I did in Berlin
#
GWG
Took a blank site and installed the tools
#
GWG
Similar to your demos
#
[jgmac1106]
we can wait and see who the audience is...keep hearing people say they are coming but only have 6 RSVPs...
#
GWG
I should record that someday regardless

good mix... most of the remote participation coming from the education and #DoOO space, may tangentially know IndieWeb, I can go first and cover basics if you want unless @gwg or [tmiller] want to do the other keynote
#
[kimberlyhirsh]
Might make sense to cover basics first. Really hammering it out tonight, but I think I'm going to talk about the Silicon Valley meme of disrupting education and what related opportunities and challenges it presents for IndieWeb.
#
[kimberlyhirsh]
Framing it more as a set of questions that might be addressed in sessions than as anything to which I have an answer.

Hmm, I have a question. How can I auto approve webmentions from sites like micro.blog? I have Akismet installed, under IndieWeb>Webmention I have micro.blog saved.
#
[jgmac1106]
yeah the whitelist feature never worked for me
#
[jgmac1106]
I don't think you can do it for a tld but for each individual microblog account
#
[jgmac1106]
guess technically not tld...but you know what I mean
#
[Rose]
I did get quite a few spam comments before, which was one impetus for moving - so I'd prefer to leave some kind of spam protection on.
#
[Rose]
Maybe I can enhance this to allow for wildcards.
#
sknebel
that said, the plugin code looks like wildcards would be easy to add

[Rose]
I have not! Thanks for the link
#
[Rose]
That's great, I'll add it to my functions.php and note the idea to check wildcards

That code snippet in the webmention link above is useful, but does that bypass the ability to monitor webmention spam?

#
[jgmac1106]
I have never gotten webmention spam... Unless a random tweet.... But do not count that. Pretty sure we don't have any examples of webmention spam with an endpoint target (yet8
#
[asuh]
FWIW, I haven’t seen webmention spam examples yet either. I figure it’s a matter of time, but I’ll keep the optimism for now
