Based on earlier conversation, I'm guessing the “Siri, what is Tantek doing?” app never got linked up to Loqi? https://indieweb.org/2017/indiesiri 😉

yeah I did thanks. The site was down last night so I panicked and thought I missed the date: http://walkmyworld.jgregorymcverry.com/ was my lame attempt of seeing if I could make a remixable simple version for Thimble users jusing sections and background images and just a few tags

[manton]
I've been using curl to send the occasional Webmention that is outside of a normal reply, e.g. for RSVPs. Is there a web-based tool somewhere that can do that?
#
[manton]
I may build something into Micro.blog later, but thought maybe there was something else out there already that I could point people to.
#
tglobe
telegraph does that exactly
[cleverdevil] joined the channel
#
tglobe
what is telegraph
#
Loqi
Telegraph is an open source API and service for sending webmentions, part of the p3k suite https://indieweb.org/Telegraph
friedcell left the channel
#
[manton]
I don't think that's what I'm looking for. I just mean a web page with a form for source, target, and Webmention endpoint.
#
[manton]
Telegraph looks useful, though, thanks.
#
sknebel
sounds like you are looking for something *more complicated* than Telegraph to recommend?
freescholar joined the channel
#
[manton]
More lower level, I guess. Telegraph requires signing in, which is an added layer I wasn't thinking of.
wolftune joined the channel
#
tglobe
you mean something like a gui over the 'curl line'?
#
[manton]
Yeah, was imagining a UI that just does what I might do manually with curl but which is a little more user-friendly.
#
[manton]
This is not a big deal, just thought something might exist already.
#
tglobe
I din't think somebody has made such a thing already, maybe I can make it tonight shouldn't be that difficult
#
jmac
Aw man, if I wasn't in my usual monday-morning mode of throwing fresh meat to all my clients I'd go whip something up
#
aaronpk
[manton]: what's the reason for prompting the user to enter the webmention endpoint? Normally the webmention sending code can discover the endpoint automatically
#
[manton]
[aaronpk] No reason. Discovering it automatically is better, for sure.
#
aaronpk
I would not expect the normal user flow to include asking for the webmention endpoint since that is starting to show more of the underlying plumbing than is necessary
#
aaronpk
I've thought about making telegraph not require login for the simple source+target form
#
GWG
I like the model of each site having a webmention form for mentions to it
wolftune joined the channel
#
[manton]
Telegraph is probably perfect. Requiring login is just an extra step I wasn't thinking of.
#
aaronpk
Once micro.blog has its own built in IndieAuth endpoint, that log in button on telegraph will be a very short flow
#
GWG
manton, are you building onem
[kevinmarks] joined the channel
#
aaronpk
GWG have you recorded a short screencast showing the WordPress IndieAuth plugin and showing how quick you can log in to things with it now?
#
[kevinmarks]
[manton] there is mention.tech
#
[kevinmarks]
that does the endpoint discovery, and also keeps a history itself
#
aaronpk
[kevinmarks]: doesn't mention.tech only send webmentions to itself?
#
[manton]
@GWG Yes, the plan is to make this a lot easier for Micro.blog users than it currently is.
#
[kevinmarks]
no, it passes them through
#
aaronpk
Ah forgot about that
#
[kevinmarks]
the first version was just local, yes, then I made it pass them through as well
#
[manton]
Oh cool. So it discovers the endpoint based on the target URL?
#
[kevinmarks]
yes, it follows the spec
#
GWG
aaronpk, not a bad idea. I have never recorded any screencast
#
[kevinmarks]
if it doesn't find one it keeps track of the mention anyway
#
[kevinmarks]
it checks for a link from the source before sending iirc
#
GWG
manton, it is much easier build an IndieAuth endpoint if you lock yourself in a room with aaronpk
#
[kevinmarks]
it doesn't scan a page for links though - that is where telegraph has the edge
#
[manton]
Nice, thanks. I think that's exactly the kind of middle-ground I was looking for, between curl and something like Telegraph.
#
aaronpk
I wouldn't make that page-scanning feature available logged out
#
[kevinmarks]
it also sends both pages to the internet archive
#
aaronpk
but I've been considering making the simple source/target form work without login
#
[kevinmarks]
so your source page may get hit 3 times - mention.tech, then the target's wm endpoint, then the internet archive bot
#
[kevinmarks]
not quite a thundering herd but a brief procession
#
jmac
Whoa, I'm curious about that IA side-effect!
#
jmac
Is that just a "since you handed me this URL anyway, I'll just tell IA about it, helping your website be a good citizen, you're welcome"? Or is this part of a larger movement to pass URLs to IA when you can do so for free?

ah, not on my link, ok

Jeena
No, just the one cut, Zegnat
#
Jeena
and my workflow is quite streamlined ;)
#
KartikPrabhu
Jeena: yeah that one was not for you
#
Zegnat
Clearly so. Now awaiting the audiophiles to come in and judge the audio 😉
#
Jeena
It's not as good as when I used big membrane microphones, but it's so much easier to transport!
#
Zegnat
I was actually surprised by how smooth the setup is! Can I ask what the kit costs?
#
Jeena
The Zoom H5 is 277 €, then you need two Lavelier microphones (I have quite cheap ones) each ~ 50 EUR, so around 380 EUR.
#
Jeena
I got the H5 because sometimes I'm recording more than 2 people
#
Jeena
but you could also get the H4 for 211 EUR
