@brentsimmons it’d be awesome to have you at IndieWeb Summit 2018 next week, even if just virtually! Lots of exciting things going on in the reader space, and would love your voice. https://2018.indieweb.org

↩️ I don’t understand what you’te getting at. The tools that IndieWeb is building are about content ownership, but they are also about pubsub. For example, there’s a central service that connects Twitter to your blog, posting discussions to your blog as Web mentions, and vice versa.

Really looking at a lot of #indieweb and #fediverse sites now. I want to ensure my content is my own and doesn't disappear like a whole year's worth of my work did recently due to a sudden website shutdown.

Not too long ago some people played Battleships over BGP (https://blog.benjojo.co.uk/post/bgp-battleships). 2-player games with clear moves like that and chess are relatively easy to do over any sort of network. (As [kevinmarks] said, “games you can play with an append-only log”.)
#
Zegnat
I think the challenge with roleplaying games (as discussed yesterday) is that there are multiple players, and play order is less strictly defined. Without the social cues (like clearing one’s throat) people might write in with conflicting moves at the same time.
#
Zegnat
I do like the idea of a dice bot that reacts to webmentions! I might build one of those :D

jeremycherfas: davy__ left you a message 1 day, 21 hours ago: Thanks. I suppose I was a little worried that it might indicate if I was greylisted and people couldn't see what I was saying. It's probably just a clientside indicator so I can visually see what I said.

@zegnat, this is why I think we would combine with Mumble or some other chat service or a chat room, post moves would be major evtns but at that point why not just use chat? It is difficult
#
Zegnat
But what part of the game would you be posting then? I really like the idea of tracking my role playing on my own blog, just trying to visualise the mechanics of it :)

cookie-law question: if I want to set a cookie to store the state of the selected color scheme on the site, would that require a cookie consent note? If it does, I'll get rid of the functionality...

↩️ I guess I did not fully understand what IndieWeb is. Not sure their site does a good job of really showcasing what it fully is. It does look very close to the idea indeed.

petermolnar: I would think if it's only storing the color then no, but if it's storing a unique user ID that is separately storing the color then yes.
#
petermolnar
it stores literally "stylesheet=none;path=/" or "stylesheet=all;path=/"
#
petermolnar
so that was my understanding as well, that it doesn't need a consent
#
petermolnar
also, it only gets placed if someone clicks on the change colour scheme icon
#
sknebel
hm, I seem to remember there being sosmething with how long you store it, but I'd honestly don't care for this case. since it's consumed by JS, you also oculd use local storage, then your server never sees it
#
petermolnar
not a bad idea
#
petermolnar
do you have any examples for that with vanilla js for all browsers?
#
petermolnar
I guess localStorage.setItem("key", "value"); and then just retrieve it should work
#
@vlucas
↩️ @aaronpk That post gave me a MUCH better idea of what IndieWeb actually is than IndieWeb’s own website. Thanks for sharing.
