[tantek] would you consider tinkering with config files to be a *user* feature? ENV? or does it have to be an installer / GUI?
#
[LewisCowles]
trying to work out optimal distance. I understand "just works" is attractive, but not always possible without eroding user choice or simplifying to a specific solution

aaronpk++ https://web.dev/web-otp/ from that link is something I need in my life

"Our imperative solution is more flexible". In the case of an OTP code, I think I'd struggle to stay polite to such a sentiment. Imperative--

↩️ email, XMPP, Matrix, Mastodon all share a common flaw in the way they define userid - it is not portable across servers. Also B can authenticate A only thru A's server, which may not be reliable. A better approach is to use Indieauth/WebID. That is what we use.

I wonder if window.FederatedCredential // https://developers.google.com/web/fundamentals/security/credential-management/ can be used to help faciliate indieauth-enabled sites
#

like if I visited `quill.p3k.io` or `lwa.black.af` and that popup appeared

doesn't seem to work well under the demo on firefox

Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next

Cutting the cord with disqus, google analytics, and other crap. Going full blow IndieWeb and Webmentions. It's a bit hard with a static blog but it can work.

↩️ That is what I thought and then I used @fluffy webmention script, dropped in one javascript file and one line of code and I had webmentions on https://jgregorymcverry.com

speaking of which how can I build a page to collect webmentions on "/" but I don't want to clutter my homepage with a ton of mentions....I want a different page to display homepage mentions
#
[jgmac1106]
and I really need to revert Known so I can get my replies back

↩️ I use Pelican and have the Webmention sends all set, I just need to figure out how to get them to show up at the end of the article. perhaps a javascript would work.

↩️ I kinda like the single-track list, all-or-nothing approach. But as the number of sites goes up it might make sense to add filters. That might go any which way then, like Netflix categories… "11ty core with Preact Webmentions" or "Vue SPA with 11ty blog in an iframe" (kidding)

↩️ Update: I reverted my site to all-Nunjucks formatting and webmentions, essentially undoing what I did a few days ago. Long story which I may explain in a future post — **but** I still highly recommend both @reubenlillie‘s code and @talkyard_io‘s commenting functionality!

↩️ Yeah that's what I was aiming for. I do want to someday make something that's purely server-side but I also feel like webmentions aren't exactly vital to page function so I'm fine with it being client-side for now. Plus server-side has waaaaay less generic applicability.

[jgmac1106] separate the receive and display parts - put the rel=webmention on the homepage, but pass the bare domain to whichever is storing them

↩️ I'm so glad we have a stake in the ground on this one, some place to start to discuss. I like @hypothes_is a lot, which is a great tool that does #WebAnnotations. Would be great to see #WebMentions integration.

↩️ @swyx @round @hypothes_is Before #webmentions there was another tech, #pingback, that had a similar purpose.
