sdf is Super Dimension Fortress (SDF), a free Unix shell. Amongst the many, many services offered by SDF are web hosting, git project hosting and a Mastodon server. Membership is free to all, and many more services can be enabled via a one-time donation. Others require an ongoing fee.

#
[mattl]
i’m sorry, i didn’t do anything but sign into Zoom. It must be my local settings that turn that on as I use it extensively (I’m deaf)
#
[mattl]
if we’re talking about the same thing… I usually get subtitles as people talk on Zoom.
#
angelo
yeah that's it. well, we've been overridden.
#
angelo
totally fine, don't worry about it

[mattl]
Yeah I’m not even sure how I turn it on. I just sign into Zoom and it’s there because my Mac knows I need subtitles?

No, everything is fine. We were just surprised because an IWC account showed up for a second, transcription got turned on, and left. But the curious thing is that as a host I am unable to turn it off, or I just can't find it in settings. Might need to be signed into the IWC account to turn it off. It's all good though
#
[mattl]
I love how we have a feature we don’t know how to turn ON or OFF.
#
[artlung]
I don’t have a link handy but I think the transcription is effectively automated captioning from inside Zoom but please note that’s not something IWC has used to publish transcripts to any place without explicit consent from all participants. We take care to only include text provided by members and for group photos we remind folks they are opting into a photo.
#
[artlung]
I feel like this warrants a HWC faq item.
#
[mattl]
yeah, because it’s also not obviously the “AI” thing that we recently turned off.
