LoqiIt looks like we don't have a page for "this dark magic" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "this dark magic is ____", a sentence describing the term)
[tantek]Longitude is a good guess. Roughly by longitude but for things in a "similar" longitude, they were ordered by latitude. It was one attempt at a "reasonable" 2d -> 1d compression
[tantek]I think we may need a more black & white policy about this than Wikipedia because we don't have the same size of community that has the time to review things
tantek.comdeleted /File:Avatar.png "content was: apparent GenAI image, zero IndieWeb relevance, only contribution from Wfdoujin/.com — if this was you, show up in chat if you want to appeal"
[tantek]3[artlung] appreciate making it work with lists too! I definitely wrestled a bit over whether table markup was semantically appropriate. At the time it felt like the data was sufficiently "tabular" with the rows and columns having such meanings that that's why i chose to use a <table>. plus I admit colspan was both helpful for reducing empty table cells and yet as I think your markup shows, it's possible to avoid such empty elements
[tantek]3I miss the Dopplr colors but that's a personal preference (it did also help to distinguish different cities as their own rather than clustering into regions which often have little overlap across cities)
[artlung]2so you can see Los Angeles takes a root color and shows different ones with an oklch variation for Hollywood and Santa Monica. Kind of want to create a tonal variation for all of them
[artlung]2ooh. used an oklch from a base color then applied a calc to the hue based on regional order. kind of interesting. https://codepen.io/artlung/pen/bNpPNqQ
gRegorI was commenting more towards the angle it's interesting these seem to be first-time contribs from people who don't seem to have interacted with the community (chat at least), so possibly spam. That one I linked above seemed more like self promo, but the sites are also heavily about "human-AI collaboration" so eh (personal reaction on the last part :D)
[artlung]2Well, that sure seems dismissive of my comment. What I'm suggesting is a link similar to what one sees when one goes to create a page, which links to https://indieweb.org/start_a_page and *that* page talks about relevance.
[tantek]3to-do << wiki admin: figure out how to add links and text to https://indieweb.org/Special:Upload similar to our "Edit" page text about copyright, IndieWeb relevance, perhaps by going through https://indieweb.org/Special:AllMessages and figuring out which page to edit for changing the look of the Upload page
