↩️ @rmondello @Mandy_Kerr Does that mean it looks at microformats, specifically mf2?

↩️ Yeah it's kind of amazing how we have two full stacks for this stuff with the #IndieWeb and #LinkedData, sort of upholding the old Microformats vs. RDF thing. Different focus though, so maybe it's actually good.

microformats is a broken fork of the "RDF in HTML" initiative. RDFa emerged as it fit the Web architecture/goals, and became part of the family of W3C Recommendations. Given mf1's limitations, mf2 tried to mimic RDFa; ended up not being backwards compatible with mf1.

I've been recently reading on all the IndieWeb is about, i.e. using microformats, webmentions, POSSE, and I'm surprised how much content and context we can get out by simply annotating our blogs properly. The web itself is indeed a social network.

↩️ I was attracted to microformats2, first because of community values, and two because the “opennes” of RDF in the learning space did not feel open (standards boards costing thousands.. Not W3c) and “complexity” there is microdata for color of developers… http://jgregorymcverry.com/4723-2/

↩️ With all due respect, please do check the wiki on its position/understanding on LinkedData/RDF and related tech. Judge for yourself whether it is genuine. Try to develop/push/evangelise non-microformats-centric/"IndieWeb" (whatever that is) approaches (eg RDFa).

↩️ Part baggage is outlined here: http://microformats.org/wiki/namespaces-inconsistency-issue but it was quickly handwaved b/c ignorance on the matter is easier to govern. Related: http://microformats.org/wiki/namespaces (originally before getting redirected!) is anecdotal evidence meanwhile the world still runs on ns. Hmmm?

[@jgmac1106] @csarven @fsteeg @schnarfed I started by looking at Metadata being used in #OpenEd spaces. This brought me to learn about JSON-LD and http://schema.org. Looked impossible to implement. Found mf2 said, “I can do that.” (http://jgregorymcverry.com/4745-2/)

Is there a case where we'd want to have whitespace at the start of a p- property? Only case I can think of in the code I'm working on right now is a pre block with indentation right at the beginning

sadly IDK of any current/active XFN-only parsers/crawlers

better to remove it unless we know of some in particular that we can cite

[[jgmac1106]] Not sure if that was right. Was advice I got. I find description of u-uid ND u-url hard to understand the difference
#
gRegorLove
[jgmac1106], uid specifies the unique identifier, usually a canonical URL using the property u-uid. If you have u-url and u-uid on the same element, consumers can identify "this is the canonical h-*". For h-cards, if that URL is the current page, consumers can identify it as the representative h-card.
#
KartikPrabhu
also if your h-card has multiple urls like your website, your Twitter etc... then u-url for all of them, but u-uid for the primary identity you use
#
gRegorLove
It's also used in https://indieweb.org/authorship#How_to_determine. If you link your author attribute to another page (author-page), that author-page should have an h-card with u-url == u-uid == author-page
#
gRegorLove
aaronpk does that in his homepage h-card
#
gRegorLove
"should." there's more options in the authorship algorithm
