Question: I’m using wordpress.com for my main blog, blog.mostrom.eu, and thought I would see what happened if I connected bridgy to it (I’m quite confused how things connect). Anyway, after adding it to bridgy I get this message: “Warning: your blog’s current webmention endpoint is None. If you want Bridgy to handle your blog’s webmentions, change it to https://brid.gy/webmention/wordpress.” So, how do I add/change this?
#
[jgmac1106]
do you have webmentions installed?
#
[jemostrom]
It’s a wordpress.com site, so I can’t install anything … but I understand that Bridgy can be made to work with wp.com also?
#
[jgmac1106]
wordpress.com is a little bit more difficult. Brid.gy connects websites that use other tehnology like microformats and webmentions,
#
[jgmac1106]
without those the most you could do with Brid.gy is syndicate post to other networks...and there are better tools for that

Here is our wordpress.com page: https://indieweb.org/WordPress.com
#
[jgmac1106]
the only way to get the entired IndieWeb WordPress experience on wordpress.com is to use one of the really expensive plans.
#
[jgmac1106]
you can get a domain, shared hosting and install wordpress.org for waaay cheaper
#
[jgmac1106]
[jemostrom] if you decide you want to export your wordpress.com to a wordpress.org instance stop by here anytime and someone will help
#
[jemostrom]
Thanks, I actually moved from self-hosted to wordpress.com for various reasons (I’m running some other parts of my domain on self-hosted wordpress).
#
[jemostrom]
Moving wordpress sites are a pain when it comes to photos … I don’t know why WP can’t handle it, when I moved to wordpress.com their support staff couldn’t do it so I had to do it manually.
#
[jgmac1106]
I do something similar but used Known (see quickthoughts) on https://jgregorymcverry.com

strange on the export that you could not just get the entire export/import on your media?
#
[jgmac1106]
Do you have a paid wordpress.com account? that can change the plugins you can use, but I think you need the most expensive plan for them all
#
[jgmac1106]
but the long and short it would be easier to set up indieweb on your selfhosted rather than your wordpress.com account

Yes, I have a micro.blog also. From what I understand an export from WordPress doesn’t include the media just the posts, so when I import to another blog the media is downloaded from the original site. What happens to me is that if there are many photos there seem to be something (time-out??) that results in only some photos actually being uploaded (same thing happened when I moved photos from a micro.blog to a WP blog). What I find
#
[jemostrom]
that if I’ve used the featured photo features they rarely gets imported to the new site - this is where the wp.com people couldn’t make it work either.
#
[jemostrom]
The only reliable way I found to move a site is to use something like Duplicator.
#
[jgmac1106]
that is strange, when I select export content and media everything comes, what is your overall goal? What do you want to differently on your wordpress.com stream that you are not doing on your micro.blog stream? I syndicate WP-> microblog, but could use micro.blog for all my status update stuff
#
[jgmac1106]
"Note: This will ONLY export your posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags; uploads and images may need to be manually transferred to the new blog." from WP.com support, but they will charge you $129 to do it for you

bridgy has a mode for wordpress.com too!
#
sknebel
not sure how much it covers though

My view: my WP-site is for longer, more “persistent” posts. Micro.blog more for social interaction
#
[jgmac1106]
yes, that was my approach with Known as my "quickthoughts"

Hey everyone. I have a quick request from someone who can help. I have a blog at TabletHabit.com and I would like to make it where I post my microblogs but I _don't_ want it to show up in my main feed or on my home page. Is there any way to have a feed with a category but not have it show in the main feed of the site?
#
[jeffperry]
I am also not sure if I need a special theme for this or if the theme I have will work. I don't want it to be 100% indieweb I just want to allow it to be where I post micro.blogs and my main blog posts.

GWG, Good morning! How goes your work with vouch?

Still trying to solve the sending vouch problem
#
jackjamieson
What is the main problem there?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "main problem there" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "main problem there is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
GWG
Yesterday, as part of that, I got crazy and implemented refbacks

I am working the problem from multiple fronts

Looking into blogrolls and following lists
#
jackjamieson
I guess without a blogroll or list, it would have to involve a lot of polling to find outgoing mentions
#
jackjamieson
Probably not ideal
#
jackjamieson
Looking at the refback page now, looks like a nice fallback from webmention. Good idea!

Not sure if this is an Independent Publisher issue or a plugin issue, but this reply has an empty p-name: https://www.serenawho.com/2018/07/01/7004/

[Serena] Replied to Announcing indiebookclub by gRegor Morrill (gregorlove.com) I really enjoy indiebookclub, but I have a few questions directly in response to your post: Can indiebookclub posts be syndicated to GoodReads? Can the ISBN link to the GoodRea... https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/a1073df3e183c269f67e7d97ad24d167?s=100&d=https://www.serenawho.com/wp-content/plugins/semantic-linkbacks/img/mm.jpg&r=g
